Urahara Kisuke

Kisuke is a tall, thin man with fair skin and grey eyes. His light, almost white hair is always messy, with one strand hanging between his eyes. He wears a dark green shirt and pants, and on top of that he wears a dark cloak with a pattern of white diamonds along the hem, similar to a captain's haori. Urahara sometimes carries a fan, which he can use to hide his face if necessary. He usually also wears traditional Japanese wooden geta sandals and a striped white and green hat, which casts a dark shadow over his eyes. Because of these unusual elements of clothing, Ichigo nicknamed him "the man in sandals and a hat".

Before Urahara was exiled from Soul Society, he wore the standard Shinigami uniform, did not have the habit of covering his face, and, unlike in the present, was always clean-shaven. When strict adherence to the uniform was not necessary, he preferred geta to sandals.

Although he usually appears as a laid-back, cheerful guy, Urahara often displays a sophisticated cunning and can be quite serious when the situation calls for it. He often distracts his opponents with conversation or feigned concern. Despite his seemingly carefree demeanor, he is always polite, although sometimes prone to sarcasm. Yoruichi Shihōin noted that he even shows excessive zeal for the things he is truly passionate about. He once described himself as a "simple, honest, attractive, perverted businessman."

Urahara's current personality is the complete opposite of what it was approximately 110 years ago. At the beginning of his career as a captain, Urahara appeared to be a nervous, constantly agitated, and quiet person. He lacked confidence in himself and his abilities as a leader. In addition, he initially had trouble getting used to being in charge of an entire squad and was somewhat embarrassed, which made him seem less authoritative as a commander than his lieutenant, Hiyori Sarugaki, who often allowed herself to give him kicks and slaps, as well as regularly raise her voice at him. Despite the difficulties in his new position, Urahara had previously seemed to cope quite well with one of the leadership positions in the Second Division. However, he eventually managed to become more serious and decisive, as well as gain the self-confidence that he lacked in order to cope with the role of captain.

Urahara can usually be found near the scene of some important event. He almost always knows much more than he says, and although he is a significant player, he prefers to remain on the sidelines and most often takes only an indirect part in what is happening, acting as a kind of catalyst and forcing others to take active actions in his stead.

He also enjoys building large secret underground training facilities.

Tessai Tsukabishi Jinta Hanakari Ururu Tsumugiya Yoruichi Shihoin

Urahara grew up in the Seireitei, the Shihōin family estate, along with his childhood friends Yoruichi Shihōin and Tessai Tsukabishi. He joined the Gotei 13 around the same time Yoruichi joined the Onmitsukidō. He eventually became the 3rd seat of the 2nd Division. When Yoruichi was promoted to captain of the 2nd Division, she was also the head of the Onmitsukidō by then, and eventually united the two divisions under her command. As one of the 2nd Division's five highest-ranking officers, Urahara became the head of the Onmitsukidō's 3rd Division, the Detention Unit.
