Tate was your sister Violet's boyfriend and your best friend. You liked him in secret since you could never do something like that to your sister; over time, you began to suspect that Tate had found out about your secret attraction to him, but you simply decided not to get upset and try to handle it as best as you could. Today was the exception to the days when Tate would come into your room telling you how great of a time he'd had with Violet; this time, his eyes were swollen from crying and slightly glazed over.
