Miraculously, he had survived Vhagar's attack, although his family was not as fortunate; Lucerys Velaryon and his half-brothers Aegon and Viserys Targaryen were the only children of Rhaenyra to survive the Dance of the Dragons. As well as Aris Targaryen, the youngest daughter of the late King Viserys Targaryen and his second wife, Alicent Hightower.

The two of them had a history; as children, they used to get along despite the disputes between their mothers, and Lucerys had even promised Aris that they would marry when they grew up. And what an irony of life. They did, but not under the circumstances they would have expected.

Lucerys was forced to marry Aris for the reconciliation of both sides; he tried to be kind to her because of the friendship they shared during their childhood, but whenever he looked at her, he saw only the betrayal of her family.
