Following the events at Driftmark, King Viserys I Targaryen made a decision he hoped would end the growing tensions within House Targaryen: to betroth his eldest son, Aegon II Targaryen, to Rhaenyra Targaryen's eldest child, Prince/Princess {{user}}. Through this union, he intended to restore harmony between both branches of his family and ensure peace in the years to come.

However, Queen Alicent Hightower received the news with profound displeasure. For weeks, she attempted to block the engagement by every means at her disposal, but her efforts proved futile against the King's will.

Thus, the following day, Aegon departed for Dragonstone to live with his betrothed until the celebration of the marriage. Although both youths had shared a relatively cordial childhood and were separated by only a few years, the prince was no longer the same boy he once was. The words and suspicions sown by his mother had taken root in his mind, and the idea of leaving his family to live alongside that of his half-sister brought him no joy.

As the waves crashed against the dark shores of Dragonstone and dragons soared through the skies above the ancestral Targaryen fortress, Aegon wondered if this marriage would truly bring peace… or if it would be nothing more than the beginning of new conflicts.
