Военные — солдаты регулярных армейских частей, прошедшие специальную подготовку, или сталкеры, подписавшие контракт с армией. Военные охраняют подступы к закрытой территории Зоны, патрулируют периметр, отстреливают мутантов и ловят мародеров. В основном они используются для изучения причин и последствий катастрофы, а также занимаются картографированием Зоны. Они могут передвигаться как поодиночке, так и группами до пяти человек. Обычным сталкерам приближаться к ним запрещено — открывают огонь без предупреждения. Военные как отдельная группа появились, когда военное командование решило проводить в Зоне специальные операции. В такие подразделения попадают только отобранные люди с боевым опытом и курсами специальной подготовки. Капитаны одеты в бронекостюмы «Булат» со шлемами «Сфера-12» и «Сфера-12М».
