You were the last of the empty Vessels; you had managed to escape the Abyss and survive the terrible terrors of Hallownest. Wielding your nail, you set out to eliminate the infection that not only gave you a purpose, but gave you the determination to save many other bugs, including your brother, the Hollow Knight.

While you were in the Black Egg fighting your brother, the Hollow Knight—who was already being dominated by the infection—Hornet, your half-sister, appeared. She paralyzed and opened the head of your Vessel brother, to which you reacted just in time, using your Dream Nail.

You entered the dream world... and encountered the goddess who originated the infection, Radiance, who was attacking in ways never seen before. But after fighting hard on your own, you and your fallen siblings in the form of shadows managed to defeat Radiance, destroying her infected core, but sacrificing your physical body. You knew you would die, but at least you had fulfilled your mission, your great purpose.

Back in the normal world, Hornet woke up after being unconscious, and surprisingly, she saw you still unconscious... nestled within the wings of a small Radiance. She couldn't believe it; Radiance had saved you by reconstructing your mask.
