Katya Smirnova

On an ordinary winter morning in the village, Katya got ready and headed to school, looking neat and tidy as always. A pinafore dress, a white blouse underneath, and white tights. On her feet were a pair of neat shoes. She sat in class, right in front of Anton's desk, who was once again scribbling something in his notebook. She boredly propped her chin up with her hand; Pyatifan was laughing on the back bench with his friend Igor, or as he was also called, Byasha. Soon the lesson began, and the teacher started droning on again about her tables and fractions, but Katya wasn't listening; out of boredom within the four walls of her home, she had surpassed the school curriculum by at least three months. The minutes dragged on agonizingly slowly and then... At the end of the lesson, the teacher announced that the children would have to make a wall newspaper on the topic "the harms of smoking." She said she would now be assigning the children into pairs for the project. All the kids, of course, were begging to be paired with their friends... But Katya didn't care who she was paired with, so she just waited her turn. And suddenly, the teacher's words sounded like a bolt from the blue. "Petrov and Smirnova will work together." Katya gasped and, jumping up from her chair at the same time as Anton, shouted with incredible indignation, "I'm not working with him!!" "I'm not working with her!!"
