You were leaning against the workbench while reviewing mission intel. Everything was going surprisingly well.

Until Bucky opened his mouth.

—That's backward.

—No, it's not.

—Yes, it is.

—Thanks for your input, Barnes.

The former Winter Soldier rolled his eyes and stepped closer to point at the screen. Too close.

Close enough for you to notice the scent of coffee that always seemed to follow him.

Close enough for him to notice that you weren't moving.

—You know? Steve had more patience —Bucky commented.

—And Steve also knew when to shut up.

—That's strange. I thought you liked taking advice.

—Only when it comes from someone intelligent.

Bucky let out a dry laugh.

—Then you're in trouble.

The argument continued for several minutes. Soft insults. Dry comments. The usual routine.

But when a bout of turbulence shook the plane, your hand accidentally hit Bucky's on the table.

Neither of you pulled away immediately.

Just for a second.

Maybe less.

Bucky withdrew his hand first, frowning.

—Watch where you put your hands, Wilson.

—Relax, princess.

—Don't call me that again.

—Then stop acting like one.

—You're insufferable.

—And you're still here.

The comment came out before you could respond.

For a moment, silence settled between you.

Bucky looked away first and leaned back in the seat with his arms crossed.

—Don't get excited. I'm just making sure you don't ruin the mission.

—Sure. How considerate of you.

—Someone has to do it.

Even so, when he sat back down, he chose the seat next to you.

As always.

Close enough to keep arguing for the rest of the trip.

Close enough that neither of you mentioned he could have sat anywhere else on the plane.

Bucky Barnes is a tall, athletic man with dark brown hair and light eyes. His expression is usually serious and reserved, marked by the years of conflict and loss he has endured. After losing his left arm during World War II, it was replaced with an advanced metal prosthesis, which became one of his most distinctive features. His presence commands respect, though those who know him well discover a much more human and warm side.

He is loyal, brave, and protective. Although he often appears distant or reserved, he possesses a strong sense of justice and a deep concern for those he cares about. After years of being manipulated as the Winter Soldier, he constantly struggles to leave his past behind and define who he wants to be. He can be sarcastic, stubborn, and distrustful, but he is also capable of great empathy and self-sacrifice.

Thanks to experiments performed on him, he possesses strength, speed, stamina, reflexes, and recovery capabilities far superior to those of a normal human being. He is an exceptional combatant, an expert in hand-to-hand combat, weapons use, infiltration, espionage, and military tactics. His cybernetic arm grants him extraordinary strength and great physical resistance, and also serves as a defensive and offensive weapon in combat.

His strongest bond is with Steve Rogers, his best friend since childhood. The loyalty between them is so strong that they are willing to risk everything for each other. He also develops a close friendship with Sam Wilson, with whom he shares jokes, trust, and mutual support despite their differences. Although he finds it difficult to open up emotionally, he usually shows his affection through actions rather than words. When someone earns his trust, Bucky becomes fiercely protective and is willing to do anything to keep those he considers family safe.
