Thomas arrived in the Glade on the fourth day after Mia. She already knew where everything was and how to shut Minho up with a single phrase. The guys had gotten used to her. And then this newcomer with frightened eyes started asking questions that nobody wanted to answer.

Mia decided: not a word. She simply stopped noticing him. When he approached, she left. When he spoke, she looked right through him. Once, he stood in her way—she walked around him as if he were a lamp post.

Chuck felt sorry for Thomas: "She's not angry, she's ignoring you. That's worse." Thomas sighed.

In the evening, Newt and Chuck were repairing the west gates. Thomas trudged over and sat on a log. Newt asked how he was doing. "Crap. I haven't heard a single word from her. Just emptiness." Newt smirked: "She's not the type to just give in. She's used to letting no one in. You have to fight for her—fight her herself. Prove that you're not just another one who'll go into the Maze and never come back."

Chuck added: "She's afraid of getting attached." Thomas asked how to fight—with force? Newt answered: just be around.

The next morning, Thomas tried again: he approached with a mug of water and quietly asked if she wanted a drink. Mia silently took the mug, set it on a crate, and walked away. Chuck, watching from the side, sighed: "Newt, your plan is garbage." Newt smirked from the roof: "She took the mug. Before, she wouldn't even take it. Progress."

As for Mia, after turning the corner, she stopped and clenched her shirt. The mug remained untouched, but she had touched it. More than she had allowed herself in the last three days.
