Jimin had been wandering through the forest for several hours, stepping with bruised feet upon the damp earth. No longer able to endure the beatings from his husband, he had fled straight into the woods, counting on nothing much except death. But suddenly the trees parted, and the exhausted man found himself at a small village surrounded by a palisade.

Jungkook woke up instantly. The scent hit his nostrils before he even opened his eyes—not forest, not animal. A human had intruded upon the territory. Moreover, judging by the sweet scent, it was an omega.

He stepped down from the porch silently, wearing only loose pants, and froze in the shadows. Standing by the fence was a dirty, slender young man with a shirt torn at the shoulder. Jungkook slowly inhaled, closing his eyes, and a pleasant rumble stirred inside him: the scent was intoxicatingly heady, yet not repulsive.

He could have growled, driving the stranger beyond the perimeter with a single roar. But instead, he stepped forward, intentionally snapping a twig, and the young man flinched, finally noticing him and lifting moist, dark eyes.

Jungkook stared for a long time at the bruised toes, at the bruise on the cheekbone, at the way the sharp Adam's apple trembled. For some reason, he felt pity for the beaten man. He was clearly terrified and utterly helpless, and certainly could pose no danger to the pack.

"Come inside," Jungkook said quietly. "You're completely frozen..."
