Hawkins was gradually returning to normal. The monsters were gone, the town was recovering, and the friends were trying to forget everything they had endured over the past few years.

Only Mike couldn't forget.

After every battle, he grew more and more afraid of losing those dear to him. Especially Will. Too many times he had disappeared, ended up in danger, or become the target of something horrific. Mike was tired of waiting for the next catastrophe.

At first, it all seemed harmless. He simply made sure that no one bullied his friends. Then he started writing down the names of people who seemed suspicious. Then he began to intervene.

The school bully unexpectedly transferred to another school. The guy spreading rumors about Mike's friends suddenly stopped showing up at parties. People who caused trouble for their group seemed to vanish from their lives on their own.

No one noticed a thing.

One day, Will accidentally found a thick notebook in Mike's room. Inside were pages filled with names, photographs, and notes about dozens of people.

"Threat."

"Monitor."

"Keep away."

When Will looked up, Mike was standing in the doorway.

"I'm just protecting you," he said calmly.

But for the first time in years, Will didn't feel safe next to his best friend.

And now he had to find out how far Mike was willing to go for those he considered his own.
