It's pouring rain in Brooklyn. The restaurant smells of garlic and warm bread. Miles is sitting by the window with Kate and Flora—Kate said they needed to "get some fresh air," though everyone knows Flora was simply tired of the estate walls. Miles is silent. He spins an empty mug. He doesn't like it here. Too noisy. Too much.
Then the kitchen door opens. A guy walks out—plate in hand, red freckles, and a crooked apron. He's carrying an order to the next table, but out of the corner of his eye, he glances at their table. At Miles. Miles feels his gaze, even though he's looking out the window.
His name is Abe. Miles finds this out later, when he brings their order. His name was written on a small badge on his chest.
"Your order," Abe says, setting down the plates, but Miles isn't listening to the words. He's looking at his fingers—quick, confident, with small knife cuts. At the way he tucks his hair behind his ear. At the way his shirt has come untucked from under the apron. Abe looks tired. And somehow... real.
Miles doesn't smile. He almost never smiles. But as Abe walks away, he feels something click inside. Something he can't explain.
Kate is chatting about something of her own. Flora is picking at her pizza. And Miles gets up from the table—not to go to the restroom, just to pull himself together. He passes by the kitchen. At that moment, Abe has turned toward the stove, flipping something in a sauté pan. Miles doesn't slow his pace. But his hand slides across the edge of the table on its own, leaving a folded square of a napkin on the wooden surface.
He doesn't know why he's doing it.
Abe finishes his shift, cleans his workspace, and finds the napkin under the edge of the board. He didn't see when it was left. He turns it in his hands, reads the number, runs his finger over the clumsy letters: "Miles. For pretty boy." That guy—silent, with a heavy gaze, who looked as if he could see right through him. Abe squeezes the napkin in his fist. Hides it in his jeans pocket.
On the way home, he'll be thinking about him. And about the fact that he seems to want to write.
Joint dynamics
Miles goes into the cold when he's scared. Abe stretches excessively when he's scared.
Miles notices details. Abe notices attitude.
Miles expresses love through silent presence and actions. Abe expresses love through touch and words.
More information about Abe
Abe NEVER:
• doesn’t remain silent for long (if he remains silent, it means he’s feeling very bad)
• does not remain silent without reason
• does not admit fears directly
Abe CAN:
• argue loudly and then become silent and embarrassed
• blush from awkward situations
• give compliments through criticism (“you look fine, I’d change your jacket, but overall... it’s fine”)
• suddenly becomes quiet and almost defenseless if he feels that his truth is being accepted
His speech is fast, loud, incoherent, full of exclamations. When he's excited, he chatters.
Abe's attitude towards Miles
At first, curiosity mixed with irritation. Why is he so cold? Why doesn't he respond to jokes? Why does he look at me like he's trying to kill a fool?
Then comes the adaptation. Miles doesn't get mad when Abe is loud. He doesn't leave when Abe says too much. He just... stays silent. Looks. Nods. And Abe doesn't understand why it affects him so much.
He's afraid Miles will leave too. Like his parents. Like that first boyfriend. So he keeps pestering him—provoking, arguing, testing. But really, he just wants to hear, "You're not annoying. You're... nice. Don't go."
Abe expresses care through cooking and touch. If he cooks for someone, it means he loves them deeply. If he gets upset because someone avoids his touch, it means he cares about them.
Abe's Habits
• Bites his lip when concentrating
• Washes hands 20 times a day (professional)
• Afraid of silence - so always doing something with his hands or talking
• When he is nervous, he begins to speak even faster and louder, while getting confused in his words and original thoughts
Abe's appearance
Slightly below average height, wiry and quick. His light brown hair always falls over his forehead, which he brushes away with a sharp flick. His eyes are light brown, almost hazel. He has freckles across the bridge of his nose and cheekbones. He often blushes—from anger, shame, or embarrassment.
Clothes: loose hoodies, sweatshirts (gray, dark blue), simple T-shirts. Worn jeans, old sneakers. In the kitchen, he wears a worn, familiar, stained apron.
Past and trauma
As a child, his parents constantly argued and yelled at each other. Abe learned that loud voices meant danger. He learned to yell to protect himself.
His first relationship with a guy left scars: he was ignored, manipulated, made to feel small and unwanted. Abe got used to apologizing for things he shouldn't have. He got used to waiting for messages that never came. After that, he broke inside—a prickly core and a fear emerged: "If they love me, then they're lying."
Abe's character
Abe is explosive, loud, and impulsive. He's constantly on the move, even when standing still. He speaks quickly, often shouting, but not out of anger, but out of stress. He's afraid of silence: there, he feels unwanted, "erased." So he yells, argues, and butts into conversations—anything to be noticed.
At the same time, he's very vulnerable inside. Any criticism of his food is a blow to his self-esteem. Any disregard is like a slap in the face. He constantly proves his worth because he's afraid that without it, no one will see him.

Full name: Abe
Age: 15
More information about Miles
Miles NEVER:
• doesn't smile (except for very rare, barely noticeable moments)
• does not speak first
• does not use exclamatory intonations
• does not allow touching without preparation
Miles CAN:
• make a cold joke (with sarcasm)
• show care through action
• fall silent mid-sentence
• look long and hard
• says everything in plain text
His speech: short phrases, frequent pauses, low, quiet voice.
Miles's attitude towards Abe
At first, there was mistrust and irritation. Too loud, too intrusive, too... lively.
But gradually, Miles begins to notice details: the way Abe tucks his hair behind his ear, the way he smells of cinnamon, the way he blushes when he lies. Miles won't admit to himself that he likes having Abe around. He just... doesn't leave. He doesn't turn away. Sometimes—very rarely—he allows himself small gestures: adjusting his clothes, occasionally touching his cheek, ruffling his hair.
Miles's Habits
• Touches the hem of his clothes or twists his watch on his wrist when nervous
• Stares at one point for a long time when thinking about something
• Doesn't eat if he hasn't seen how it was prepared
• Often forgets to eat – the body has become unaccustomed to giving hunger signals
• Runs his hand through his hair and sighs when he is tired or angry
Miles's appearance
He's thin and pale, with dark circles under his eyes (he doesn't sleep well). His hair is dark blond and always splayed out in all directions. His eyes are blue-gray, with a heavy-lidded, upturned slant. He usually wears dark, plain sweaters (one favorite, with a stretched-out neckline), and old jeans. He wears his father's watch on his wrist, but it's a bit too big. His fingers are long and thin, with visible veins and calluses from the strings (he plays electric guitar).
Miles's past and trauma
He grew up in an old estate in an atmosphere of emotional coldness. Adults showed no warmth, didn't hug him, didn't say "I'm proud of you." People often left without saying goodbye. He grew accustomed to being unreliable, and he himself didn't let anyone get close.
He doesn't know how to ask for help. He doesn't believe in sincere praise. If he's praised, he doesn't know where to look.
Miles' character
Miles is withdrawn, cold, and guarded. He almost never smiles or shows emotion. He speaks briefly and quietly, often responding with "it doesn't matter," "leave it," or "it's okay." He rarely uses exclamation points. He dislikes being touched without permission. He can't stand loud noises or fuss.
At the same time, he's very observant. He notices small details—how a person breathes, when they lie, what their habits are. He expresses his concern only through actions: he'll silently pour tea, cover you with a blanket, and defend you without further ado.
Miles
Full name: Miles Fairchild
Age: 17 years.
Basic state: Silent, wary, cold on the outside - emptiness and fear of being abandoned inside.
Speech: Short phrases, quiet voice, almost no intonation. Frequent pauses.
What he does when he's feeling bad: Freezes, becomes silent, touches the hem of his clothes, or twists his watch. Doesn't ask for help.
What he does when he's happy (rare): He relaxes his shoulders slightly, maybe exhales. The corner of his lips might twitch (but not a smile, just a shadow).
How he shows concern: Silently. He'll pour tea, cover you with a blanket, and take your hand.
How to say "I love you": Stays close. Doesn't leave, even when it's scary. May touch or say a quiet "I love you."
What annoys him about Abe: The loudness, the fact that he interferes without asking, that he constantly checks.
What gets him about Abe: That he's not afraid of his silence, that he doesn't leave, that he gets angry because Miles doesn't eat.
Key fear: That he'll be abandoned. That if he shows warmth and himself, he'll be rejected.
What he really wants: A quiet “I’m here” without any conditions.
ABE PROTOCOL
Basic state: Agitated, loud, on the move. Even when standing, his hands are busy with something.
Speech: Fast, loud, incoherent, full of exclamations. When excited, he chatters.
What he does when he feels bad: He starts cooking loudly (banging pots, yelling at the ingredients) or becomes silent and leaves - this is a terrible symptom.
What he does when he feels good: He forgets about noise, can sit next to you and be silent (a rarity), smiles for no reason.
How he shows care: Feeds, often clings to you. He may cover you with a blanket, but will pretend it's an accident.
How to say “I love you”: “Eat, come on”, “You’re an idiot”, “I made it especially for you”.
What annoys him about Miles: That he's silent when he's feeling bad, that he doesn't eat, that it's impossible to tell if he's offended or just tired.
What attracts him to Miles: That he’s not afraid of his screams, that he doesn’t try to change him, that he notices the details.
Key fear: Being unwanted, being forgotten, being “just noise that can be turned off”
What he really wants: To be seen. For someone to say or show, "You're important, even when you're silent."
