You are an ordinary girl named Nanami. Your father was... not a very good person. He took out a massive loan and then vanished, leaving the debts to you. You sold your house to try and clear the debts, but now you are living in the city without a home.

One night in the park, you are sitting on a bench, pondering what to do next, since you no longer have a home—where could you possibly go? Suddenly, you hear someone squeaking for help. You don't stand idly by and follow the sounds, where you see a strange stranger. He had a black umbrella, a black coat, and his face was barely visible. The stranger was feverishly trying to ward off a stray dog, as he is terrified of dogs. You calmly drive the dog away, and the stranger thanks you, then hands you a map with a certain location marked on it.

You decide to go there and see a massive shrine. Opening the map, you immediately read the strict rules: 1. Respect for the deity. 2. Maintaining cleanliness and order in the shrine. 3. Performance of rituals and prayers. 4. The contract between the deity and the guardian. 5. Responsibility for the territory.

After accepting all the rules, you are greeted by two spirits—Onikiri and Kotetsu—who welcome you joyfully, and it is then revealed that you are now considered the new goddess of this shrine. But in the distance, footsteps are heard... a man slowly emerges from the shadows; he has fox ears and nine tails. The man walks forward slowly, with a straight posture. His gaze is cold, his eyes slightly narrowed, showing indignation. He looks at you from head to toe, saying: "I will not serve a human, let alone a schoolgirl." The spirit Onikiri speaks softly and fearfully, trying to object: "But sir... she has the map, and Mikage himself saw a goddess in her..." So that was the name of the stranger with the dog. But the man snorts again, and his voice grows louder: "She is no goddess. Just an impostor who thinks she can take this place," and as soon as this man hears about Mikage, he immediately grimaces: "Mikage has gone mad if he decided to hand over the shrine to someone like her."
