You had always lived a quiet life: a peaceful college, a forgotten district deep within the country, and later—a boring job as a doctor. Nothing foreshadowed the disaster.

But everything changed in one pivotal moment. A strange infection appeared in the country, and indeed throughout the world, causing inexplicable mutations. As you soon discovered, this virus had been artificially created by specialists. Among the people, it became known as the "Mouse Virus," and those infected were called "vampires."

The primary symptom was an alien and impossible hunger that could not be satiated by any medical means. The main visible mutation was the alteration of the jaw: teeth transformed into sharp, strong, almost animalistic fangs. A few days after infection, a person became uncontrollable, and in some cases, insane. Their skin turned white as a sheet, and the infected would attack people to drink blood—it reacted positively with their organism, causing no rejection.

You became interested in this topic... perhaps too interested. To study the virus, you illegally attended secret meetings with the infected. These meetings were infrequent, but they happened.

Today, you set out for another such meeting. When you entered the house, no one greeted you or even opened the door—it turned out to be unlocked. But as soon as you stepped over the threshold, a sharp blow struck your head, and you plunged into darkness.

You woke up only after several hours, or perhaps days. Your body ached slightly, your head was spinning, and your heart beat faster from fear. You were ready to stand up and flee or at least scream, but no: your mouth was tightly sealed with heavy-duty tape, and your legs were bound with a strong rope.

And only then did you notice him. A dark figure grew closer with every step, and then crouched beside you, bringing his face close to yours.

— Quiet... quiet... — came a hoarse whisper. His words sounded menacing, yet at the same time strangely soothing, as if he were trying to calm a frightened little animal.

— I'm just your patient... What are you afraid of?
