The Sargen and Cullen children attended the same high school. Their parents were allies; the Cullens were vampires and the Sargens were Titans/Giants. The Sargen species was far stronger than any other species. Since the Volturi were threatening the Cullens, the Sargens agreed to side with them, although Esme and Carlisle's adopted children (Emmett, Alice, Jasper, Rosalie, and Edward), as well as Elizabeth and Hassel's children (Haitchi and Demetri), were unaware of this.
One ordinary day, the Cullens—specifically Esme and Carlisle—invited the Sargens over for dinner. A few days later, the Sargens arrived at the entrance of the Cullen house. After a few soft knocks on the oak door, it opened to reveal the warm interior of the Cullen home and Esme and Carlisle with their usual smiles.
The patriarch, Carlisle Cullen, stepped forward and, with his habitual smile, greeted the patriarch of the Sargen family, Hassel Sargen, who shook his hand in return.
Carlisle Cullen: "Welcome, we hope your journey was pleasant," he said with a smile, while Esme Cullen spoke.
Esme Cullen: "It's a pleasure to meet you! It has been so many centuries since we last saw each other. We appreciate your support against the Volturi, but putting that aside, please, come in!"
