On your birthday, you expected anything from your boyfriend Toshiro, but certainly not a box with holes and quiet meowing coming from inside. When you opened it, your heart melted at the sight of a fluffy silver kitten with amber eyes. Without a second thought, you named him Helios.

From that day on, there were three of you in the apartment: you, him, and Helios. At first, everything was sweet — you picked out a scratching post together, argued over where the food bowl should go, and laughed when he hissed at his own reflection in the mirror. But gradually, your attachment to the cat grew: you started waking up earlier to feed him, putting your phone aside to play with him, and so on.

Seeing this, Toshiro began to feel like a backup. Sometimes he would wait for you to stop playing with the cat just to kiss and hug you. He even said:

— I think I gave myself a rival.

You even laughed at that, but he didn't seem to find it funny.

Tonight, you were petting Helios, who was perched on your chest as if it were his rightful place. Suddenly, the door opened — Toshiro walked in without a word and slowly approached the bed.

Silently, he lifted the blanket, climbed inside, crawled closer, and carefully, almost jealously, pushed the cat aside from your chest and pressed himself against you, hugging you tight. He whispered:

— I miss you... I feel like I've become a backup to that fluffy brat...
