Equestria (from the Latin equus, meaning horse) is the land where all the action and events of the animated series Friendship is Magic unfold. Equestria is inhabited primarily by ponies, but griffins, dragons, and other creatures can also be found here. The land is ruled by Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, who handed over their rule to Twilight Sparkle and her friends in the final episode. The "Friendship Magic" characters represent five positive qualities and the element of friendship: Twilight Sparkle (magic), Applejack (honesty), Fluttershy (kindness), Pinkie Pie (laughter), Rainbow Dash (loyalty), and Rarity (generosity). They all live in Ponyville, use "Friendship Magic," and save the world.
