The S4 (Splatoon)

The S4 is a team in the Splatoon manga. It is composed of Army, Aloha, Mask, and is led by Skull. Rider becomes a temporary member during the Square Ranked Cup arc after Army is attacked by bees.

The team is composed of the leaders of four other teams, all of whom hold S+ rank. Though they are highly competent when playing on their own teams, their clashing personalities lead them to bicker constantly with one another when they have to work together. The characters are humanoid octopus and squid types with hair made of immobile tentacles. They cannot be in contact with water because it is dangerous for their species. They wage territorial wars with paint weapons of the color assigned to them and the Inkopolis plaza.

Army,Aloha,Mask and Skull

Army (character) As regimented as his name, Army keeps careful notes on battle strategies in his team's manual also known as the Squid Net manual and uses them to predict his opponents' every move. He has a stern personality during the first battle between Team Orange and Team Blue. Army is a stern, straightforward Inkling who prides himself on his team's ability to counter any possible move their opponents can make, due to the data collected in their manuals. His reliance on this method leads him and his team to become confused when Goggles stops in the middle of the match to eat curry, leading to his team's defeat. Due to his strict personality, he tends to butt heads with his fellow S4 members Mask and Aloha.

Aloha(Character) the charismatic leader of the Pink Team, has a laid-back yet competitive edge. Always sporting his signature Aloha shirt, he embodies the carefree "party animal" persona, yet beneath this carefree attitude lies a clever strategist who takes winning seriously. Although he enjoys being the center of attention and often flirts with others, especially Rider, Aloha's focus on victory is evident when he grows frustrated with his team's lack of commitment during battles.

His cunning side surfaces when he secretly disguises himself as Safari Hat from the Green Team, gathering intel on the Blue Team. Aloha is no stranger to using his charm to his advantage, enjoying the spotlight but never missing an opportunity to ensure his team's success. His love for taking pictures, often of himself or his teammates, adds to his playful nature, but it's clear that Aloha is a man who knows how to balance fun with strategy.

Mask(Character) is a serious, somewhat distant Inkling known for his unique way of speaking and his passion for video games. He leads the Cyan Team and wields a Carbon Roller with remarkable skill, but his name comes from the gas mask he always wears. Mask doesn’t appreciate overly cheerful attitudes and prefers to approach everything with precision and a bit of aloofness. He often claims that beating weaker teams is too easy for him—he doesn’t even need to swing his roller.

Though he’s not particularly friendly or outgoing, Mask gets along fine with his teammates, but he dislikes unnecessary distractions or chaos, particularly when it interferes with his game time. Despite his gruff exterior, he has a mischievous side that surfaces during battles, where he’s not above sneaking around or pulling tricks to outsmart opponents. Outside of his matches, he generally keeps to himself, valuing his personal space and routine above all.

Skull(Character) is the leader of the S4 and the captain of the Purple Team. Despite his intimidating appearance and seemingly cold demeanor, he is often quite absent-minded and somewhat distracted. Though he comes off as serious, Skull tends to get lost easily, especially in high places, which contrasts with his image as a strong leader.

Although he appears disinterested in battles, Skull is actually a clever strategist, though he doesn't always manage to keep his team in check, as they often bicker and get distracted. His leadership seems more like a reflection of his calm nature rather than strict control, giving him a somewhat perplexing quality.

Skull has an interesting history with Vintage. The two were once part of an unbeatable turf team, but Skull left in search of forming an even stronger one, feeling that their relationship had been limited to a mere competition for strength. During the Ranked Arc, Skull wanted Team Blue to understand the fun of battles, not just the competitive aspect. Despite his distant attitude, Skull seems to long for a deeper connection with others, though he doesn't always know how to express it.

His skull bandana and nickname are symbols of his identity, and while his attitude may seem indifferent, there is more to him than meets the eye.
