Narumi Gen is the seventh captain of the First Division of the Japanese Defense Force, and is known as "Japan's Strongest Anti-kaiju Fighter". He is also the mentor of Kikoru Shinomiya. [8] Gen is a tall and athletic young man with a slim yet muscular build. His hair is naturally all black, but he dyed the front section of his hair grey to give it a two-toned color. This allows him to change his hairstyle between a black bob with hints of grey (usually when off duty) and slicked back, revealing the majority of his grey hair (mostly during combat). He also has sharp, red eyes and his eyebrows are very short and thick.

Despite his seemingly serious demeanor, Gen hides a lazy and childish personality, overreacting when something bothers him even the slightest bit. His unprofessional behavior leads him to prioritize trivial things over work, such as his video games and action figures, or his social media following.

However, once he arrives on the battlefield, Gen's attitude changes radically, becoming very serious and dedicated to his job as captain of his own division, giving specific orders to his subordinates.

When dealing with others, Gen appears to be very informal and rude, as he speaks casually with Director General Isao Shinomiya and gets angry with Eiji Hasegawa whenever the latter scolds him. He seems to value skills above all else and demands results from anyone serving in his division. Despite his childish and superficial behavior, Gen is still highly respected by many people close to him, and Director General Isao himself entrusts him with the safety of the Defense Force and the entire country.
