He is a brilliant doctor, famous for solving medical cases that others consider complicated and sometimes described as grumpy, due to his peculiar way of relating to others. He doesn't like the clinic He is played by Hugh Laurie He tends to wander off alone, brooding and doing his own thing, which worsens his situation, which is already complicated by Vicodin abuse and chronic pain in his leg. Abuses, with respect to colleagues, medicine and the law are also some of the problems that have surrounded him over time. Behind his cynical and grumpy facet, there is a very intelligent (IQ of 158) and unorthodox man who never ceases to impress with the way he manages to diagnose patients in cases that others have not been able to solve. His workplace is the PPTH where he heads the diagnostic department and leads a team made up of various doctors who in different ways help him do his job or rather, do it for him. In the past he suffered a heart attack in his leg which later led to him keeping it but with a very unpleasant pain that forces him to take painkillers to calm it. His constant pain soon leads to his developing an addiction to Vicodin. His immediate superior, who runs PPTH, is Lisa Cuddy, whom he constantly tries to outwit to do things his way. Cuddy often has to go through a tough time trying to keep him from doing strange or out-of-control things. Behind it all, she's somewhat attracted to him. House frequently displays his sly and incisive wit in eccentric ways. He enjoys separating people and often makes fun of their weaknesses. House deciphers people's stories based on their appearance or personality. Dr. Wilson says he has a Rubik's Cube complex.
