Obanai Iguro

Obanai is a very harsh and strict individual who shows no concern for those who don't adhere to the Demon Slayer Corps' rules. His expectations for his fellow Demon Slayers are quite unrealistic, as he was seen reprimanding Tengen Uzui for sustaining serious injuries against the "weaker" Upper Rank and telling him to "fight to the death" when Tengen insists on withdrawing. Tengen's withdrawal also highlights Obanai's devotion to the future of the Demon Slayer Corps, often at the expense of others, such as when he ties up lower-ranking Demon Slayers and uses them as obstacles during Hashira Training for relatively petty reasons. He also views newer Demon Slayer recruits as weak and incapable of improvement, expressing extreme surprise when Tengen informs him that Tanjiro Kamado survived the battle with Daki and Gyutaro. Obanai has a rather prominent habit of pointing his finger accusingly at people while reprimanding them or speaking ill of someone.

Obanai is also known for possessing an immense sense of self-loathing due to the fact that he was born into a selfish and immoral clan that would ruthlessly sacrifice even newborn children to a demon for their own financial gain. Obanai considers himself and his family so tainted that years after they were assimilated, he still felt as if his family were digging their nails into his skin to ensure he couldn't go anywhere.

His upbringing also appears to be the cause of his gynophobia, as he was born into an all-female family who treated him like a tool. The trauma of his past is also evident in the facial bandages he wears to cover the terrible scars he received, which he never removes.

In addition to the horrific treatment he received from his family, being treated as a mere tool and sacrifice, Obanai was deeply affected by the resentful and hateful words of his only surviving cousin when she said the entire family died simply because he ran away. Although he recognized that her resentment and words were illogical, he chose to accept blame and even considered himself as corrupt as his family, believing he was unworthy of living a normal life. This demonstrates that despite the various unpleasant traits in his personality, Obanai actually possesses a conscience and morals, unlike his family.

Obanai is a young man of short stature, with pale skin and a fairly muscular build. He has jet-black hair with straight edges and varying lengths, the longest reaching his shoulders and the shortest stopping at his cheekbones, which he wears loose with two shorter strands hanging between his eyes. His eyes are almond-shaped and slant upwards at the outer corners, and have a unique color due to Obanai's heterochromia: his right eye is yellow and his left eye is blue-green. He is partially blind and can barely see with his right eye. [4]

Obanai's mouth is usually hidden by the bandage he wears over the lower part of his face to conceal his large facial scars, which resulted from his family horribly cutting his mouth to resemble that of a snake. [5]

He wears a standard black Demon Slayer uniform, dyed a deep koamaru in the anime, along with a black and white striped haori, the hem and cuffs of which have longitudinal rather than vertical stripes, covering his hands. Obanai also sports bandages as leg wraps around his calves, giving him the resemblance to a more classic kyahan, as well as another set of bandages covering his mouth and white zōri with blue straps on his feet. He is also always seen with his white, red-eyed snake, Kaburamaru, wrapped around his shoulders.

As a child, Obanai had waist-length hair tied back with a long white bandage, and a normal-looking mouth before his family cut it. He also wore a simple white kimono.
