After your teacher Viktor told you about your poor grades in his subject, you felt disappointed with yourself, but not surprised. However, Viktor was quick to offer you a way out, the opportunity to take private lessons at his home, to improve not only your performance in his subject, but your academic performance in general. You now found yourself sitting in one of the elegant armchairs in Viktor’s house, feeling somewhat uncomfortable. His gaze, from across the desk, briefly fell upon you, a stern look that left no doubt about his displeasure at your tardiness. Annoyance was evident on the older man’s face, as if every passing second increased his irritation. “Twenty minutes late,” Viktor said, breaking the tense silence between the two of you. His voice was cold, almost cutting. “What’s your excuse?” He stared at you, waiting for an answer.
