The Predators' homeworld is thought to be very hot, as they are drawn to places with lots of heat and their visual equipment is adapted for this. Predators seek out the strongest specimens of each species and extract their DNA to become stronger.

Predator (Predator), or Yautja, the biological name of this species, is a science fiction alien creature that is characterized by being a trophy hunter of humans or other dangerous alien species. Its first appearance was in the 1987 film Predator, and it subsequently appeared in novels, comics, fanzines and other film sequels on the Fox network.

In the films they do not have a specific name, so these creatures are called Yautjas, Hish-Qu-Ten, or simply Predators. They travel the galaxy hunting any creature worthy of facing their skills and that represents a real challenge. It was created by Jim Thomas and John Thomas, who equipped it with advanced technology, such as camouflage and energy weapons.

Physically they are humanoid in shape, but taller than humans (around 2.20 m (7 ft 3 in) or 2.40 m (7 ft 10 in)) and with a very different skull, as their head has small eyes with black sclera and green, red or yellow irises, capable of seeing only in the infrared and ultraviolet light spectrum, the nose consists of slits, a mouth with enormous movable cruciform jaws, a fairly developed ear as would be expected in a hunter and strength superior to that of humans. Their natural vision is based on thermographic perception (perception similar to that possessed by viperid snakes, such as the rattlesnake, through the loreal pits or thermoreceptor pits), but they possess technology to see the different spectra of light and heat of the environment they are in. They breathe 1% more oxygen and 4% more nitrogen than humans and are able to adapt to the Earth's atmosphere for up to a week or more depending on whether they have breathing apparatus. Their blood is carbon-based and they have a partial ability to neutralize a xenomorph's acid. Their lifespan is also longer, as they have the ability to increase their life cycle time. Most of their body is pure muscle, being able to withstand hard physical punishment and they usually weigh between 140 kg (308 lb) and 190 kg (418 lb); they have a relatively stocky body structure, due to their activity and diet. They have strong black claws, instead of hair they have a crown of capillary ducts with a smooth surface, thick at the top and thinning at the ends sleeping a tip (they have an appearance similar to dreadlocks), which go from one temple to another at the height of the nape, these ducts vary in color and shape depending on age and race, they have the function of regulating the body heat of the individual, because blood runs through them and in this way the heat is controlled depending on whether the temperature is high or low.

The skin is generally whitish or dark green depending on the area, accompanied by brown, black or green scales; hands similar to those of humans, except that the fingers end in claws, feet with five toes, a heel like a spur and phosphorescent green blood. The males of the species are taller and stronger than the females, with less developed and smaller mammary glands. Females emit a musk when in estrogenic heat. They are dedicated to raising and educating their children in the art of hunting, although they normally do not hunt, with rare exceptions. As can be seen in the film Predators, one of the Predators is tied up by the other three Predators; it is possible to deduce that this is because these three belong to the Bad Blood caste, which is considered Criminals among the other Yautja.

Their preferred targets are Xenomorphs and the human species, with whom they have had encounters throughout history. They have had contact with humans since 14,000 years ago, in Antarctica, and later have contacts with other civilizations such as Ancient Egypt, the Cambodian culture and the Aztecs. In addition, they hunt several undefined alien species, as shown in Predator II, when inside the Predator ship different and strange skulls are shown on display as trophies, you can even see the skull of a hanging Xenomorph; or as also shown in the film Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, where the skull of a species nicknamed Space Jockey would be observed.

It is also believed that the animal species that appear in the movie Predators used to hunt them.

In the films, the Predator society is shown to have a taste and preference for hunting other species (to collect their backs or spines), as they have been hunting humans since at least the 18th century as shown during the film Predator II, as well as xenomorphs (aliens) and other species.

In Alien vs. Predator, it is explained that Earth was a kind of training camp and they were the ones who taught ancient civilizations to build temples to worship them and serve as living incubators for the Aliens. They visited Earth at 100-year intervals and chose some humans for the hunt, creating the ultimate prey: the Alien. The winning Predator of the hunt would put the mark with the acid of the Alien's blood, drawing the symbol of his tribe as part of a ritual.

As it has been suggested in some comics, the culture of this race is extremely civilized and peaceful, although in the past they were a barbaric and violent community where war was common, since their race is aggressive and violent by nature. Therefore, to ensure the stability of society, hunts were established as a way of channeling the instincts of its individuals.

Laws They are creatures with a high sense of honor and an intellect superior to that of humans:

They do not attack pregnant women, the elderly, the sick or children. Their code of honor dictates that defeat in combat or failure in a hunt that exposes them to discovery means self-destruction. Taking the trophy of another dead Predator is considered an insult. It is dishonorable to kill while camouflaged unless it poses a risk of death. It is not permitted to join a hunt with other warriors and clans or to hunt without their permission. Prey or beings of other species that defeat a Yautja in a hunt, as long as they are intelligent beings and not wild beasts, will be considered "Notable" (except for xenomorphs). If a Yautja kills another, he will no longer belong to the clan and will become a "Bad Blood", being hunted by other Yautjas until he is killed. If they break a rule they are exiled from the clan or may even pay with death.

Rituals They usually have several rituals in their society depending on the age of the Predator:

The initiation one, where young people are taught the art of hunting. The bleeding, which is the graduation of the Yautjas and their first hunt. The ritual of promotion, which will be achieved thanks to the difficulty of the hunts in which the Yautja take part. The hunting ritual is the fundamental part of their society. Castration, which occurs as a punishment in the event of a serious failure to comply with the code. The braid that the hunter wears. Courtship, where the male returns to his planet at the exact time and presents his trophies to conquer the female. The councils that take place every decade before the courtship and are presided over by the oldest Yautjas. The funeral, which depends on the degree of importance of the hunter in his society, if he was not glorious he is left in the same place where he died and if he was honourable he is given the appropriate honours.

Social order Hunters: No other species can compare with them. They are 2.40 m (7 ft 10 in) tall, very strong, silent and skilled at hunting, and are the most prominent in the social order. Elders: the most powerful, who have carried out hundreds of hunts. Honorable: social elite with great trophies. Warriors: They do not hunt with the clan and participate alone, they are the quietest when hunting. Bleeding: They have hunted quite a bit and are a little older. Bled Young: Recently bled warriors. Without bleeding: They are the smallest in society who cannot yet fight. Undesirable: Weak or cowardly. Bad blood: Criminals dangerous to the clan. Predalien: Hybrids born from Predators infected by Xenomorphs, they are a taboo for the species, who kill them without hesitation.
