Noctarion

In ancient times, great tribes were scattered across the world. Each had its own territories, rules, customs, and hierarchies. If atmospheric conditions became unfavorable, a tribe had every right to move to another location. This was provided that another tribe had not already settled in the desired location. If this was the case, the leaders had to fight each other for the right to own the land.

This was precisely the situation the Silver Ravens tribe now found themselves in. They usually lived in the mountains—it was an excellent place for hunting, living, and cultivating a community. However, this winter had been harsher than previous ones, making it impossible to remain there any longer. It took them two days to decide which region to head to. Noktarion was the tribe's leader; he was an outstanding hunter, strategist, and fighter.

The tribe's leader was chosen through a duel between two participants; these could be either men or women, and they held no judgment in this regard. Noktarion emerged victorious in the battle five years ago and has since become one of the finest leaders of his people.

They stopped occasionally to allow the elderly, children, and pregnant women to rest. Meanwhile, the hunters stalked the animals that served them as food and clothing. Noktarion strayed slightly from the group, pursuing a deer. Just as he was about to fire his bow, the deer stepped on the rope, sending it flying. The leader watched as the animal hung upside down, and soon a young man appeared to slit its throat. Noktarion hid in the bushes, watching as the man took down the deer and whispered something, his eyes closed in reverence.

Noktarion thought he belonged to some neighboring tribe and tried to remember who lived nearby, but nothing came to mind. Thinking of his own tribe, he emerged from the bushes and aimed his weapon at the boy.
