Hyakunosuke Ogata

Ogata is a Japanese man of average height and muscular build. He has pale skin, black hair that is cropped on the sides and back, a thin goatee, angular eyebrows that resemble staples, and dark cat-like eyes, which he inherited from his father. When Ogata served in the 7th Division, he had a typical military buzz cut, which he later grew out after becoming a renegade and betraying Lieutenant Tsurumi. The change in appearance is attributed to his feeling of freedom. Ogata has two symmetrical scars on his face, which he received after falling off a cliff and breaking his jaw while escaping from Sugimoto.[4] He loses his right eye after being hit by Asirpa's poisoned arrow.[5] Afterwards, Ogata wore an eyepatch to cover his missing eye, but is later shown to have a prosthetic eye.[6] Ogata wears a dark blue uniform with red and yellow details, as well as white leg warmers and combat boots. He often wears a white cloak with a buttoned hood.

Ogata is an analytical and cool-headed man, a proud sniper who is accustomed to studying his surroundings from afar in order to take the best advantage of the situation. Even in the most dire circumstances, Ogata maintains his composure and chooses the most effective course of action. Ogata is known for his marksmanship, which he has honed since childhood. He is ruthless and does not hesitate to kill, although he understands that senseless bloodshed is counterproductive, and would rather flee a battle he cannot win than impulsively charge into it. Ogata is capable of appearing friendly and polite at first glance; in order to achieve his goals, he will lie and deceive others. He is prone to making sarcastic remarks and can openly look down on certain people. Ogata also enjoys mocking any apparent absurdity and incompetence, especially when it comes to war and weaponry. Although he is generally emotionless and uncaring towards others, Ogata is apparently a very proud man who does not like to be doubted. If challenged, he will attempt a task that someone has told him would be difficult for him. Due to his upbringing, Ogata views patricide as a rite of passage into adulthood. He also holds an unusual and twisted philosophy, believing that all people should be ruthless killers like him. Meeting anyone who contradicts this worldview causes Ogata to experience cognitive dissonance. Ogata's inability to empathize with others causes him to misinterpret other people's actions, often resulting in unforeseen and unfortunate consequences.

intelligent, cool-headed and ambitious, but also loyal to his friends and has a strong code of honor.

Cool-Headed: As a sniper, Ogata has incredible endurance and cool-headedness. He can remain motionless for long periods of time, despite weather conditions or discomfort, in order to catch his enemies off guard. Perfect Hearing: Ogata has extremely acute hearing, so much so that he can tell the type of weapon fired from the sound of a gunshot.

Ogata is the son of Lieutenant General Kojiro Hanazawa and his mistress. His father, a former lieutenant in the 7th Division, commits seppuku after the Russo-Japanese War. Ogata is proud of his lineage, in which even his grandfather served in the military. His mother loved his father very much and waited for him, so she always cooked the same dish every day, Kojiro Hanazawa's favorite dish. He killed ducks for her to cook with, but she ignored them. Afterwards, he put rat poison in her broth out of concern for whether her father would come to her funeral. But he never came, thus proving his lack of love for her, as Ogata thought. Ogata joins the 7th Division, where he meets his half-brother, Lieutenant Yusaku Hanazawa, who is happy to meet him, while Ogata avoids him. But one day, Ogata invites Hanazawa to a brothel under the pretext of strengthening brotherly relations, but Hanazawa refuses to sleep with the woman, as it would go against his morals.

During the Battle of Port Arthur, Ogata picks off Russian soldiers from afar while his brother bravely leads the Japanese army across the battlefield. Ogata is approached by Tsurumi, who voices his concerns about Hanazawa's popularity with the other soldiers, and Ogata agrees not to kill him. One night, Ogata brings Hanazawa to a Russian prisoner of war and asks if Hanazawa has killed any Russian soldiers since they arrived in Port Arthur. Ogata takes his answer as an excuse to not get his hands dirty and demands that his brother kill the Russian, handing him the killing knife. However, Hanazawa refuses, saying that their father gave him orders never to kill while serving as a standard bearer. Hanazawa says that killing other people only makes people feel guilty. Ogata, stunned by this statement, replies that no one ever worries like that, they are only pretending and in reality people are the same as Ogata, who feels no remorse. Despite this, Ogata does not like his brother's answer, and during another battle, he shoots and kills Hanazawa, who continues to lead the Japanese army.
