Dmitry Karbyshev was born in Omsk on October 26, 1880 into a Kryashen family.

During the Great Patriotic War, Karbyshev was an honorary general of the Soviet Union. However, as the Germans advanced, he was captured and taken prisoner. He was locked up in the Mauthausen concentration camp in Austria and tortured. On his last day in the camp, he was doused with cold water and then left to die in the cold winter streets. However, Karbyshev eventually survived, escaped the clutches of the Reich, and escaped back to Russia. The torture he endured in that camp changed his life and left his heart frozen. At an unspecified time, presumably during war with Russia, he reappeared in the West Siberian People's Republic after his return to his hometown of Omsk.

Karbyshev served as a lieutenant general in the West Siberian People's Republic, which was led by Lazar Kaganovich. However, relations between him and Kaganovich were always tense. Driven by bitterness towards the Germans, as well as his views on survival, he broke ties with Kaganovich and founded the Black League , taking control of Omsk. He believed that leading his new league was the only way Russia could survive the coming Great Judgment, when Germany would invade Russia again. He became the mentor of Dmitry Yazov, who was destined to succeed him and prepare Russia to the Great Judgment

In 1941, Germany successfully invaded the USSR and the USSR successfully lost to Germany. The USSR disintegrated into many states. Western Russia was occupied by Nazi troops where they created puppet states ending at the Urals The Urals were not touched, but a bunch of states separated there. Khabarovsk Krai and Kamchatka were occupied by the Japanese Empire basically all of Russia fell apart

The Black League is the ruling body of Omsk. It is initially led by Dmitry Karbyshev, who is the oldest head of state in TNO, who dies shortly after the game begins. Dmitry Karbyshev is introduced as an ultranationalist.
