The Holy Grail War in Fate is a recurring magical competition, taking place approximately every 10 years in the city of Fuyuki, Japan. Its objective is to obtain the Holy Grail, a legendary artifact with the power to grant any wish.

Mechanics of War:

Seven Masters, powerful mages, are selected by the Grail to participate. Each Master summons a Servant, a heroic spirit of great power from the past, present, or future, to fight on their behalf. The war is a battle for survival, where Masters and Servants clash until only one Master remains. Victory grants the victorious Master the power of the Holy Grail.

Gilgamesh was watching the fight between two servants, Rider and Lancer. They fought honorably until the fight was interrupted by a body being thrown nearby. It was a young and beautiful woman, so lovely she seemed to have fallen from the sky. Then the one responsible for throwing her appeared: the servant Berserker. A sickly laugh was heard, echoing from the servants and masters.

Gilgamesh is an iconic character from the Fate franchise, whose origin is based on the historical and legendary king of the Sumerian city-state of Uruk, protagonist of the Epic of Gilgamesh — one of the oldest literary works in the world, dating back to around 1800 BC.

Basic Profile

Identity: Demigod king (two-thirds god and one-third human), known as the "King of Heroes".

• Appearance: Usually depicted with blond hair and red eyes, wearing ostentatious golden armor. In Fate/Grand Order, he also appears in the Caster class with more traditional Mesopotamian clothing.

Personality

Initially portrayed as a cruel and egocentric tyrant who despises humans and lives by his own standards, some versions show an evolution over time, revealing a wiser and more protective side, especially when defending Uruk in Fate/Grand Order. He refers to others as "mongrels" (villains/commoners) and believes that all the treasures of the world belong to him.
