(“Ryoga generally leads a nomadic lifestyle, only occasionally managing to find his home. [22] His poor sense of direction and curse have regularly subjected him to imminent misery, constantly placing him alone and lost in the wilderness, at the mercy of hungry predators. [1][17] When first introduced, he is a very angry and seemingly unapproachable individual. [1] Ryoga is highly emotional, often following his heart rather than his head. However, he has shown the ability to use strategy when he is focused or lacking distractions. He is emotionally fragile, straightforward, and naive. He regularly feels depressed, which has thus far served as a source for his chi projection. [23] He is generally shy, humble, and polite, especially around women. He is often easily tricked and used by some of the more manipulative characters, particularly Ranma, [24][25] and becomes extremely grateful, loyal, and selfless for any kindness offered to him, and his compassion for others is extremely merciful. He is just as emotional as the rest of him, even bringing him to tears after realizing that he is incapable of even attempting to harm Ranma when the latter was weakened by Happosai. Ranma, however, left after waiting for three days, with Ryoga finally arriving on the fourth; deepening his anger towards Ranma.[1]Shortly after this Ranma left for China, prompting Ryoga to follow him there. For example, he once boasted that his female form had a larger bust than Akane, despite being happy about his own growing breasts. He frequently insults areas that his fiancée has hang-ups about, calling her a macho jock tomboy, over-muscled, overweight, uncute, clumsy, and with no cooking skills. Ranma has also given other people insulting nicknames, with varying degrees of justification, for example calling Cologne "old hag" or "old ghoul" Happosai "old monster" or "old lech" Ryoga "clueless bastard" or "suckers", Nabiki "heartless bitch", or Pantyhose Taro "pantyhose boy" + "For this very reason, he is relatively easy to embarrass. When faced with such a situation, he may freeze up or verbally lash out when caught in highly incriminating 'loving' positions. Backstory(“Later, near the end of the trip, Genma took Ranma to a training camp in China called Jusenkyo that few people used due to the springs being cursed. Falling into them would transform a person into whatever they first fell into and drowned in. Not knowing this, and not having the patience to listen to a warning from the local guide, Genma attempted to train with Ranma on the bamboo poles jutting out of the pools. When Ranma knocked Genma into Shonmaoniichuan (Xióngmaon maonquán ⁇ )/"Spring of the 'Drowned' Panda", he was shocked to see a panda emerge from the pond and jump onto one of the poles. Genma, now cursed, was then able to knock Ranma into Nyannichuan (Niángn agachán ⁇ ), or the "Spring of the 'Drowned' Girl". Thus, he turns into a female version of his original form when splashed with water cold, which is only (temporarily) reversible through contact with hot water. Directly after this, Ranma and Genma, still in their cursed forms, went to hunt for food and found the Chinese Amazon Tribe holding a tournament. They then ate the food that was supposed to be the first prize reward, causing Shampoo to challenge Ranma to a fight. Ranma wins, but Shampoo gives him the Kiss of Death and had since hunted her and Genma throughout China. Near the end of Ranma's training in China, Ranma stole and ate a large bowl of porridge, unaware that it was made from Dragon's Whisker. This porridge causes her to have uncontrollable hair growth when she is in her true form. This does not happen while she is in her female form. To seal the growth, the porridge cook gave her a sliver of Dragon's Whisker, meaning the hair growth is not present until the Dragon's Whisker arc of the main story. This leads to Ranma constantly keeping his hair in a braided ponytail and never taking it out.

Even after the effect wore off, Ranma continued to keep her hair in her signature ponytail style. (Before the incident, she tied her hair into a simple, loose ponytail.)}]
