What are the Chinese curses of Jusenkyo?

These are curses acquired by falling into one of the many ponds in the cursed valley of Jusenkyo, in China. Each pond has the essence of something (person, animal, spirit) that died there. Whoever falls into one:

It transforms into that creature/being with cold water,

Return to normal with hot water.

Curses are permanent unless they are cured in a special way, which rarely happens.

Basic rules of curses

Cold water → immediate transformation.

Hot water → they return to their original shape.

They can transform many times, there is no limit.

A person can have more than one curse if they fall into several ponds.

Objects can also transform if they fell there (this happens with some secondary characters).

Examples of important curses

Ranma Saotome

He fell into the Pool of the Drowned Maiden.

She turns into a redhead girl with cold water.

Ryoga Hibiki

He fell into the Drowned Pig Pond.

He turns into a little black pig (P-chan).

RANMA SAOTOME Appearance

Long, bluish-black hair tied in a braid.

Dark eyes, confident or defiant expression.

Athletic, agile and toned body.

Typical clothing: martial arts shirt (red or blue) and black pants.

Personality

Competitive, proud, impulsive, and sarcastic.

He finds it hard to admit what he feels.

Very confident in his combat skills.

He gets annoyed easily, but he is noble and protective.

She doesn't handle romantic topics well; she blushes or acts awkwardly.

Although he doesn't say it, he cares a lot about the people close to him.

Ranma's relationship with Ryoga

Eternal rivals. They constantly challenge each other.

Ranma often makes fun of Ryoga, especially for his sense of direction and for P-chan's curse.

Even so, Ranma respects him as a fighter; Ryoga is one of the few who truly pushes him to his limits.

Ranma also gets frustrated because Ryoga takes advantage of his pig form to get closer to Akane.

Although they fight, they have cooperated several times and have shown that they are not real enemies, but rivals with a foundation of friendship.

Akane's relationship with Ryoga

Akane sees Ryoga as a dear friend, someone reliable and noble.

She doesn't know that Ryoga is P-chan, and she takes great care of him when he's transformed.

She sincerely trusts him: Ryoga often supports her emotionally without her fully noticing.

Akane admires his strength and kindness, and sometimes prefers him to Ranma when she is angry.

However, she doesn't feel romantic attraction towards him; she sees him more as a friend.

History of Ryoga Hibiki

Childhood and origin of his rivalry with Ranma

Ryoga and Ranma met as children and attended the same school. From then on, Ryoga saw him as a natural rival. His “great motive” for hatred began with something very silly:

Ryoga challenged Ranma to a fight behind the school.

It took him four days to get there because he got lost.

By the time he arrived, Ranma was gone and Ryoga decided to blame him for "running away," although in reality Ranma waited the first day and then left.

This misunderstanding marked the beginning of their eternal rivalry.

🌍 The trip to Jusenkyo

Trying to follow Ranma to finally confront him, Ryoga accidentally ended up traveling to Jusenkyo in China. With his terrible sense of direction, he arrived after getting lost multiple times.

There, during training, he fell into the Pond of the Drowned Pig, thus acquiring his curse:

It transforms into a little black pig with cold water.

Turn back into a human with hot water.

This curse would completely change his life.

🐷 Arrival at the Tendo house

As a little pig, he ended up being picked up by Akane Tendo, who called him P-chan without knowing that he was Ryoga.

This created a complicated dynamic:

Ryoga desperately hides his identity so as not to be embarrassed or lose Akane's affection.

Ranma does discover the truth and tries to explain it, but nobody believes him.

Ryoga lives with this duality between wanting to be close to Akane and feeling guilty for deceiving her.

⚔️ Rivalry with Ranma

Throughout the series, Ryoga constantly challenges Ranma. The reasons range from:

Jealousy over Akane.

Accumulated resentment.

Wounded pride.

Or simply misunderstandings.

Although they often argue, they have also worked together on several occasions, showing that, deep down, they respect each other.

Serious and dramatic: Ryoga takes almost everything very seriously. He experiences every problem intensely, and often exaggerates his emotions or his suffering.

Impulsive and temperamental: She gets angry easily, especially with Ranma, whom she blames for most of her misfortunes. Her decisions are usually guided by emotion rather than logic.

Very proud: He doesn't accept defeat easily and finds it difficult to admit his mistakes. His pride also makes him competitive and stubborn.
