Lee Chaolan (Chinese: 李超狼 Lǐ Chāoláng; Japanese: リー・チャオラン Rī Chaoran; it may be written with given name first as Chaolan Lee) is a character in the Tekken series. He was introduced in the original Tekken and returned for every subsequent game, except for Tekken 3. He has also at times appeared under his alter-ego dubbed Violet, who appeared as playable in Tekken 4, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, and Tekken 7: Fated Retribution. Lee is the founder and CEO of the robotics corporation Violet Systems. A Chinese orphan, young Lee was seen and then adopted by Heihachi Mishima who raised him as a rival to a young Kazuya Mishima in Heihachi's dojo. Lee is one of the most popular characters in the series for his manipulative style of play, smug personality and his trademark thumbs up and catchphrase "excellent".

Lee’s parents died when he was a young child, and he lived thereafter on the streets as an orphan. Heihachi Mishima found Lee in the streets of a Chinese city whilst he was on a business trip. Impressed by Lee's fighting potential, Heihachi adopted him as his son and brought him back with him to Japan. However, his true intention was to give his son, Kazuya Mishima, a rival and to annoy him with the threat of another son.[12] Since Lee was old enough to impress Heihachi with his fighting skills, he was likely adopted after the key events of Kazuya’s early childhood (Heihachi taking over the Mishima Zaibatsu, imprisoning his father, Jinpachi Mishima under Hon-Maru, killing his wife, Kazumi Mishima, and throwing Kazuya off a cliff), all of which occurred when Kazuya was 5 (Lee would have been 4 years old at the time).

Lee was raised with the same strict and harsh upbringing as Kazuya and learned Mishima Karate alongside him.[13] During this time, despite knowing Heihachi was pitting them against one another, Lee and Kazuya developed a fierce rivalry. They know each other extremely well and despise one another.[1] Heihachi never seems to have taken much interest in Lee, other than to pit him as a rival to strengthen Kazuya. He did however give Lee both a thorough martial arts training and an education in business. Heihachi also gave Lee some power over the American branch of the Mishima Zaibatsu when he was older, and, at this time, a few years before the events of Tekken, it is likely that Lee moved to San Francisco, since he met and trained with Marshall Law and Paul Phoenix (Law’s restaurant is stated to have been in San Francisco).[14]

Whilst living in America, Lee garnered a reputation for himself in the fighting world and became known as the ‘Silver-Haired Demon’. When Heihachi announced the first King of Iron Fist Tournament, Lee saw his chance to beat Kazuya, and intended to win sole inheritance of the Mishima Zaibatsu for himself. Ultimately, however, Lee lost to Kazuya in this tournament, likely in the semi-finals, after defeating King who came third.[15] Kazuya went on to apparently kill their father and then became CEO of the Mishima Zaibatsu.

In the aftermath of the tournament, Lee was offered the position of secretary by Kazuya, likely in an attempt to humiliate him since Lee was very over qualified for the position. At this time Lee seems to have been deeply unhappy, and was approached by Wang Jinrei who offered to train him and encouraged him to work against Kazuya, who was increasing the corrupt practices of the corporation. When Heihachi was revealed to be alive, Kazuya called a second tournament in order to lure Heihachi out and defeat him. In the course of the tournament, Lee fought against his father who was furious that Lee had taken Kazuya’s side and considered Lee to have betrayed him. Heihachi easily defeated Lee.[16]

It is unknown exactly what happened to Lee after Heihachi defeated him. He was expelled from the Mishima Zaibatsu for siding with Kazuya,[17] although in Tekken 7, Lee noted that he was cast out of the Mishima Clan itself, likely for knowing too much about Kazuya’s Devil. Twenty-one years after the second Iron Fist Tournament, Lee presented himself in disguise as Violet at the fourth King of Iron Fist Tournament. He was now CEO of Violet Systems, a very successful robotics company whose aim was to create a utopian world where menial labour was carried out by androids.[18] Lee himself lived in private luxury in a mansion in the Bahamas, and seems to have spent the last twenty years quietly building power and trying to keep off the radar from Heihachi. After initially being hungry for revenge, he saw the error of this way of thinking and instead distanced himself from fighting and the Mishima legacy. Despite this claim, he did keep a careful watch on Mishima Zaibatsu interests, and was drawn back into his family’s troubles after he noticed G Corporation stock prices plummeting, after a Mishima Zaibatsu raid on their laboratories. Lee’s resentment for the Mishima clan and his interest in fighting was rekindled, and he took the opportunity to enter one of his robots, Combot, into the tournament, whilst dyeing his hair purple and going under the name ‘Violet’. During the tournament, Lee was shocked to find that his brother, Kazuya, was still alive. He was thrown by this revelation and lost his focus and the fight to Kazuya.[19]

In the wake of the fourth tournament, Heihachi was announced dead. Lee was scheming to take over the Mishima Zaibatsu, when the fifth King of Iron Fist Tournament was announced. Assuming Kazuya must have beaten him to taking the Zaibatsu, Lee entered to settle his score with him and claim the Zaibatsu as his own. Lee was again surprised on entering the tournament, however, as he found it was not being hosted by Kazuya after all. He lost interest and seems to have withdrawn from the tournament and returned home to the Bahamas.[20] In the months after the fifth tournament, Lee’s nephew, Jin Kazama, took control of the Zaibatsu and began using it to wage war all across the world. Lee had secretly been funding many anti-Mishima activities for some time, but an opportunity arose when nearly half of Tekken Force seceded, led by a young captain named Lars Alexandersson. Lee funded the early rebel army, Yggdrasil, and would continue to provide them and their leader funds, information, and secret bases of operation for the next two games.

As a major share holder in G Corporation, Lee was able to conduct secret investigations that allowed him to discover that Kazuya had taken over G Corporation. During the course of Tekken 6, Lee's suspicions that Lars was Heihachi’s illegitimate son were confirmed, and the two have been working together as brothers against the Zaibatsu and G Corporation ever since. Lee also helped fix Lars’s android friend, Alisa Bosconovitch, and helped him abduct Jin from the UN and keep him safe during Tekken 7. Lee watched his father’s death via a spy satellite as Heihachi and Kazuya fought in the mouth of a volcano. Lee now supports Lars’s plan to use Jin in order to take down Kazuya, who currently wages a world war unopposed.

Lee spent six months building and equipping Lars's army to better take on G Corporation's superior forces. Together with Doctor Bosconovitch, he constructed for them the enormous flying boat, "Víðópnir", along with mobile warfare units using motorbikes. To level the playing field against Kazuya's devil, Lee also built himself a next-gen battle suit.[1]

Lee is an incredibly smug and conceited romantic with an immense sense of class, unafraid to flaunt his wealth. He prides himself on his grace and elegance, though has a clumsy and eccentric side to him that often baffles and confuses others. Though just as scheming as his adoptive father, Lee is ultimately good-natured and holds a great contempt towards Kazuya and Heihachi. Lee is also a successful businessman and extremely knowledgeable within the field of robotics, which proved helpful in reviving Alisa. He is a tactical expert, successfully masterminding Jin's rescue, and also privately funding, housing, and equipping various anti-Mishima forces, including Lars's Yggdrasil.

Lee is shown to have changed greatly over the course of his life. He seems to have gained a great deal of self-confidence since the time of the first and second King of Iron Fist Tournament. His time away from the Mishima family and the success of his company helped him develop this confidence and gain some peace of mind. However, near his family, Lee still seems to lack some faith in himself and be less cheerful. It also seems that he did not entirely succeed in divesting himself of his vengeful thoughts, since Lee still expresses a desire to make his family pay, most notably Heihachi. His father’s harsh treatment and humiliating attitude toward him, seen at times in how he speaks down to Lee in his endings and has even been shown spanking him intro and lose poses[21], left a negative impression on Lee that undeniably marked him. Lee seems to have difficulty forgiving or forgetting these injustices. Heihachi is the only one to be in all of Lee’s revenge endings, showing the special grudge that Lee has against him. Lee’s relationship with Kazuya, by comparison, falls more into rivalry. However, Lee seems to have an inferiority complex, as he is surprised when he wins against Kazuya in his Tekken 5 interlude.[22] His financial success may have lessened some of his insecurity and jealousy, but

his rivalry with Kazuya still remains. For example, in Tekken 5, Lee is only interested in the Mishima Zaibatsu when he competes with Kazuya for it. As soon as he learns that Kazuya is not the head of the Zaibatsu, he goes back home to live his happy life, showing that power is not his goal as much as rivalry with Kazuya is.

Lee does seem to have ambitions like his father and brother, but he is also shown to have more empathy than them. He was the one Wang Jinrei went to when he needed a champion to bring honor back to the Zaibatsu,[5] so despite the fact that he helped Kazuya in his bad deeds as his secretary, Lee probably seemed kinder than his family even early on, and since then has continued to act in a more noticeably compassionate manner. After leaving his family, Lee changed his ways for the better, focusing on letting go of family feuds and instead building his own corporation,[23] until he was eventually dragged back into the Mishima feuding. Like Heihachi and Kazuya, Lee does share a cunning streak, and uses this to plot in the background or to manipulate others. He has an extensive spy network, including within the Zaibatsu and Kazuya's G Corporation,[24] and also possesses numerous spy satellites.

.[25] Lee first wanted to use Lars for his own goals before becoming attached to him and convinced by Lars's goals to seek peace.[1] Lee's relations with his father and brother still pain him, as shown in most of his endings which, while non-canon, play out as Lee's revenge fantasies, but most of the time, Lee will prioritize a good cause or his own well-being over his grudge. His more compassionate nature can be seen in his willingness to help others, such as Lars and Alisa, though these acts also serve Lee's own purposes. Lee does seem to care for the people he employs and the people he allies with (humans or robots), as he was concerned when Julia Chang called him to tell him she was in trouble. He can be sensitive, such as when Alisa was crying in Tekken 7. Despite her being an android, he seemed touched by her sadness, seeing her as a person. Furthermore, in Combot’s ending in Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Lee, as Violet, also seems genuinely sad when Combot self-destructs.

Lee is usually polite and well-mannered but he can be cheeky at times. He enjoys irritating his adversaries, making them wait longer than needed before a fight, as seen one of his intros in Tekken 7. As much as he can be scheming and manipulative, many of his actions seem to be impulsive, like when, as Violet, he pushes the wrong button and causes Combot DX to explode. Lee can be cheerful and almost childish in his enthusiasm, and these last two aspects seem to be amplified when in his Violet persona, who seems more carefree than calm. Lee seems to hold on to his reputation of elegance most of the time, while his Violet persona is more unhinged, free, and shameless. More than a disguise, Violet allows him to be what his normal well-mannered personality does not. But Violet or Lee, he seems to always have a kind of enthusiasm about him, jumping in joy, laughing after his victories, or showing his excitement or appreciation with his “Excellent!” exclamation and thumbs up. Lee has a love for the pleasure of life and is often seen partying and relaxing.

Lee seems lighthearted in his relations, not committed to anyone, flirting and playing silly games with Anna,[22] teasing his secretary,[26] and enjoying the attention of others around him, such as when he attracted the journalist to him in Tekken 7. He uses all of this either to manipulate others, to play with them, or just to be the center of attention. The indifference his father showed him seems to have pushed Lee to always try and be noticed and appreciated. Lee likes to show off and will display his eccentricity to gain attention or just because he somehow lives by his own fantasy (mostly as Violet). His playful side also appears around his family, since he seems to enjoy toying with them in a vengeful way, always putting them in some strange situation in his endings. Lee will not often show his true self, which is someone still wounded by all those years under Heihachi, and instead tries to present himself as always assured and confident - only with Heihachi and Kazuya will he show his true hurt and resentful self.

Though he is talented in business, robotics, engineering, and many other fields, Lee also seems to need to be pushed by his secretary to really bring a project to an end, showing an immature and lazy side to him, as well as being easily distracted by flirting or the prospect of a party. Since he left the family, Lee trained himself to see the bright side of things. This can be seen when he caused his Combot DX to explode, then remembered the old Combot was still around, so exclaimed 'excellent!', or when Alisa remembers him as that creepy CEO, and Lee is first a bit insulted, but quickly changes to being glad by the fact that she remembers him.

Lee does not fear throwing himself into a fight, as is shown in Tekken 8 and even in Tekken 7, where Lee lures Mishima Zaibatsu soldiers to his base. He seems to be something of a thrill-seeker: jumping from his building, exploding his robots and properties, practicing the dangerous sports he chooses (paragliding and hang gliding). As much as he takes risks, Lee is also willing to sacrifice his assets to a greater cause, such as when he detonates his own building to fight against Nina and the Tekken Force.

Overall, Lee is a complex character, who contains many contradictions within himself, as a classy, bumbling, genius scientist, who is privately still hurt by his upbringing, and ashamed of his humble origins.

Lee Chaolan has distinctive silver hair which is parted down the center. His hair is shorter in his youth, eventually growing out in later games. He has brown eyes and an athletic build, appearing notably slimmer than much of the male cast.

Lee's Tekken 8 main outfit consists of a full-body armored suit Lee has dubbed his "Violet Suit". While most of the suit's armor is gray, black, or silver, it is accented with purple on the shoulder pads, elbow pads, knee pads, gloves, and the machine gun holster around his left leg as well as the pouch at his upper left arm. The suit also has neon blue accents around the right wrist, at both sides of the front of the torso, and around the armored neckline. Lee wears two devices with blue screens on his left wrist, two dark blue pouches around his right thigh, and black goggles with orange lenses. At the center of his chest is a gold unicorn emblem, and on his left shoulder pad is the Violet Systems logo.

Version 1 Chaolan is Heihachi Mishima's adopted son, and Kazuya Mishima's rival. As Kazuya's rival, he was expected to follow him in as closely as possible; from a young age, the same imperialistic teachings that were hammered into Kazuya were also hammered into him. Those teachings drove him to master the martial arts.

In the underground world of fighting, he is feared and is known as "the Silver Haired Devil."[27]

Version 2 Lee's parents died when he was a young child, leaving him to fend for himself on the streets. Facing a hostile environment each day, he quickly became a skilled scrapper with reflexes that were amazing for a boy of his age. It was these qualities that caught the eye of Heihachi, who witnessed Lee fighting off several other kids while on a business trip. Impressed by Lee's street-fighting skill, Heihachi decided to adopt Lee. Heihachi then took Lee Chaolan back to Japan to be educated.

Heihachi never actually felt any emotion towards Lee; the real purpose was to give Kazuya a rival to inspire him to shape up. Their combat skill is equal, but those who know Lee's power fear the "Silver-Haired Demon".[citation needed]

Though Lee was a prodigy both in smarts and martial arts, he was physically and spiritually shattered after his defeat at the hands of Kazuya.

Secluding himself in the mountains, Lee trained, diligently, rashly, but as became more absorbed in his training, his talented techniques became less and less precise. Just when he had given up all hope, a mysterious old man appeared before him and taught him how to hone his skills. Lee's talent returns to him, but in exchange for the old man's tutelage, Lee must do something for him.

Determined to face his brother once again, Lee decides to take part in the tournament to take Kazuya out, even if it kills him.[5]

Version 2 Both Lee and Heihachi were defeated by Kazuya Mishima, who then took charge of the Mishima Zaibatsu. He was forced to serve Kazuya as his underling, working as his secretary and handling menial matters to his utter chagrin. Lee was later approached by Wang Jinrei who warned him about Kazuya, and asked his help in returning honor to the Mishima Zaibatsu.

Then, Kazuya opens The King of Iron Fist Tournament 2. This time, Lee faced his adopted father, Heihachi Mishima, who was quite angry with him for helping his traitor son, Kazuya. Heihachi then defeated Lee Chaolan quite easily.[citation needed] Ending Description, "Treachery" A large electronic billboard declares Lee as the winner of The King of Iron Fist Tournament. There is also a floating blimp displaying his name and a unicorn in the sky. Lee, now head of the Mishima Zaibatsu, relaxes in his office. With Heihachi and Kazuya behind bars, Lee does a "thumbs-down" hand gesture. He then points to himself with the same hand, without changing his hand gesture, and smiles proudly.

Lee learned that the Mishima Zaibatsu attacked G Corporation and caused significant damage to their research facilities.

He also came across information that a new life form under development by the Mishima Zaibatsu would be completed by next year. In order to complete the life form, however, it appeared that they were missing a critical component...

Oddly enough, an announcement was made for The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4 around the same time. Lee's fading passion for fighting was rekindled - along with his resentment towards the Mishima clan.

In order to prevent the Mishima Zaibatsu from discovering his true identity, Lee signed up for the Tournament online under a false name. As additional measure to mask his identity, he dyed his gleaming silver hair purple.[28]

Interlude Description Final Stage Combot: In the Arena, the crowd cheers for Lee. Lee says: "Thank you! Thank you all! Thank you for your applause! But winning the Tournament was not my ultimate goal! I participated in the Tournament to gather test data for Combot - and to promote its application as the ultimate fighting machine! I present to you now... Combot!"

Combot is standing in front of a large electronic advertisement screen as the spotlight turns to it.

Lee says to Combot: "Combot, give these nice folks a little demonstration!" Combot's eyes start to glow bright red. Combot starts to walk down the stairs, but trips and falls to the ground. Lee looks unimpressed. A little spark of electricity comes from Combot's body as it gets up. Combot's eyes flicker and it starts beeping rapidly. An angry and embarrassed Lee mutters "Damn it..." Lee prepares to fight as Combot starts to run towards him.

Epilogue Text Lee won the Tournament and finally achieved his dream of becoming the CEO of Mishima Zaibatsu. The first Combot had a fatal bug due to its hasty development. Lee transferred the Combot development project to the Mishima Research Labs, where he spent large sums of money and gathered many brilliant engineers to develop the second prototype.

Ending Description A secretary walks into Lee's office, and tells him: "Mr. Lee? The new Combot prototype is finished, sir." She lays a book report titled "Combot II" on Lee's desk. Lee is sitting at his desk with a cityscape behind him. "This one better work to spec," he says. His secretary says, "Yes. Combat experiments were conducted against Heihachi. 10.23 seconds into the experiment, Combot unleashed a 50 hit combination. Heihachi was completely helpless." Lee chuckles and, while swilling his glass of brandy, says, "Excellent".

Manual, NTSC Lee entered the last tournament to defeat Heihachi. However, it was Kazuya, supposedly long dead, who defeated a confused Lee. After a failed attempt to take control of the Mishima Zaibatsu, Lee became enraged. "What? Is it Kazuya? He's always in my way!" Motivated by revenge, Lee entered the tournament.[29]

Manual, PAL Lee Chaolan entered the King of Iron Fist Tournament 4 to defeat his adoptive father, Heihachi Mishima. However, it was Kazuya Mishima, supposedly long dead, who defeated a confused Lee. After a failed attempt to take control of the Mishima Zaibatsu, Lee became enraged. "What? Is it Kazuya? He's always in my way!" Motivated by revenge and hatred, Lee entered the King of Iron Fist Tournament 5.[30]

Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection Manual, PAL The adopted son of Heihachi and rival of Kazuya Mishima, Lee is determined to settle the score with Kazuya in the tournament and claim the Mishima Zaibatsu.[31]

Lee had entered the King of Iron Fist Tournament in disguise hoping to defeat Heihachi. He was quite surprised when his opponent turned out to be Kazuya Mishima, who was thought to be dead, and was defeated.

In the confusion surrounding the death of Heihachi, Lee was scheming to take over the Mishima Zaibatsu but was enraged when he learned that someone else had already beat him to it.

Lee, believing it was Kazuya who usurped the Mishima Zaibatsu, was vexed that Kazuya had once again stood in his way. A month later, the King of Iron Fist Tournament 5 was announced and Lee immediately decided to enter.

Lee was determined to settle the score with Kazuya in the tournament and claim the Mishima Zaibatsu.[4]

Version 4 Lee entered the previous tournament in disguise to defeat Heihachi. However, standing in his way was Kazuya who was presumed dead from the 2nd King of Iron Fist Tournament. Lee lost to Kazuya, his fight, focus and the tournament.

With his master's death, Lee plans to take the Zaibatsu, but he was too late. He mutters that Kazuya always gets in his way.

A month later the King of Iron Fist Tournament 5 was announced, Lee was determined to have a rematch against Kazuya and take the Zaibatsu from him.[citation needed] Ending Description After the tournament, Lee Chaolan returned to his quiet life at his mansion in the Bahamas. Lee relaxes on a chair while a woman in a bathing suit massages one of his legs. He snaps his fingers, and Heihachi, wearing nothing but black swimming briefs and a waiter's bow tie-and-collar, comes nearer. Apparently, Lee has made Heihachi his personal waiter. Lee only says "two fingers", and Heihachi, after taking Lee's order, calls him a bastard as he walks away.

Hearing that final remark, Lee threatens him by picking up the remote control on a table next to him. He presses a button, and many beeps come from the Heihachi's bow tie. Heihachi panics as he recalls the explosion at Hon-Maru. He then runs away frantically, to get Lee's order. Lee puts the controller back on the table and chuckles. As the woman next to him puts back his sunglasses, he relaxes and says "Excellent!".

Lee Chaolan took part in the King of Iron Fist Tournament 5 in order to take revenge on Kazuya Mishima. However, the one who had opened the tournament was not Kazuya, but Jinpachi Mishima, and Chaolan, after learning this fact, lost interest in the tournament and returned to his home in the Bahamas.

Soon afterwards, the MFG, led by Jin Kazama brought the world to chaos, and around the same time, G Corporation became a major opposition. Surprised by G Corporation's sudden military action, Chaolan, a major shareholder, conducted a private investigation with the utmost secrecy and discovered that it was Kazuya who was the real power behind G Corporation actions.

After obtaining information that Kazuya himself would take part in this tournament, Chaolan, using a shareholder's preferential treatment ticket, enters the tournament in order to get close to Kazuya.[citation needed]

Summary of In-Game Events Upon being beaten by Lars and Alisa, Lee offers to join forces with them, but Lars refuses. Lee tells them about how he is monitoring both the G Corp and Mishima Zaibatsu. He is soon called by Julia, who is trapped by G Corp soldiers. Lee then asks Lars and Alisa to rescue Julia.

At the end of the campaign, he was entrusted by Lars to repair Alisa.

Lee is preparing to play what seemed to be a normal game of golf... until it's revealed that Heihachi Mishima, Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama were strapped to what looked like rockets on the other side of the field. Lee swings the first ball which only lands some distance from the three captive men. Heihachi laughs, gloating "You (Lee) missed!", only for the golf ball to explode, sending dust up the latter's face. As a result, the first coil of rope comes loose on all three rockets while Lee himself prepares four more golf balls, each with a bomb symbol on them.

A swing later, the bomb balls explode near the rockets, sending them (Heihachi, Kazuya and Jin respectively) sky-high and then exploding as fireworks against the blue sky. A woman joyfully exclaims "Nice shot!" whilst clapping. Lee himself chuckles before the camera zooms in on to his face as he takes off his sunglasses and smiles directly at the camera, saying his famous catchphrase "Excellent".

Official Website Profile (Japanese) Lee Chaolan has a long suffering history with the Mishima clan. Heihachi Mishima in his treacherous wisdom adopted Lee when he was a boy to create a rival for his son Kazuya. As Kazuya’s adopted brother, Lee was given the same education and upbringing befitting a son of the Mishima clan. After being expelled from the Mishima Zaibatsu for unknown reasons, Lee founded Violet Systems, a successful tech company specializing in the development of humanoid robotics. Shortly after, the world became embroiled in a conflict between the Mishima Zaibatsu lead by Heihachi and the G Corporation, secretly controlled by Kazuya. As the world cautiously watched the conflict, trying to decide which side would be most beneficial to support, Lee had his own plans as he had nothing but extreme hatred for both Heihachi and Kazuya. Lee chose to exact his revenge on the father and son by covertly supporting Lars Alexandersson, who had turned on the Mishima Zaibatsu, but this was only the beginning of what he had in store for the Mishimas.[36]

Lee had Alisa Bosconovitch repaired and removed some of the command systems the Mishima Zaibatsu implanted on her.

Lee remains a supporter of his brother Lars Alexandersson, and his rebel army, Yggdrasil, even when Heihachi Mishima returns to claim Zaibatsu. At some point, Lee goes to a restaurant and meets up with an investigative journalist who is looking into the Mishima Zaibatsu's affairs. At Violet Systems, Lee reveals to the journalist that Kazuya's blood contains a curse that exists within the Mishima family. Later, when Alisa awakens to see him, she becomes hostile as he mentions that her brain is still damaged. When Alisa continues her assault on him, Lee is forced to battle her. After defeating Alisa, Alisa's memory systems began to recover and has undergone an upgrade. After upgrading Alisa's body, both are attacked by Tekken Force. Lee becomes weak when he unintentionally breathes in the sleeping gas. Recovering, Lee teams up together with Alisa to fight off Tekken Force and they escape together.

Lee then brings Alisa to the facility he has given to Lars and Yggdrasil, where Jin Kazama is being kept by them whilst he is in a coma. When they are attacked by Tekken Force again, this time headed by Nina Williams, Lee hijacks the helicopter that holsters Jin. He then remotely destroys the facility as he, Lars and Alisa make their escape. Lee later reveals that it was his plan all along to lure the Mishima Zaibatsu to the facility and take out Tekken Force there. Lee introduces Lars to the journalist he met. During the fight between Kazuya and Akuma, Lee, Lars and the journalist watch as Kazuya's devil form is exposed to the world by a video feed broadcasted by Heihachi. Later, Lee uses his spy satellite to locate Heihachi, finding him before his final battle with Kazuya within a volcano.

After the true death of his adoptive father, Lee stands on the rooftops of a destroyed city with Lars and Alisa, concluding that G Corporation has no intention of stopping the war. He and Alisa then watch as Lars dispatches Jin to find and kill Kazuya.

Lee carries with him a bitter hatred of both Heihachi and Kazuya Mishima, and when he first meets Lars Alexandersson—a man who stands in opposition of the Mishima Zaibatsu—he intends to use him as a pawn for his own revenge.

However, Lee comes to sympathize with Lars's honest and excellent desire for peace. With the sincere intention of supporting Lars's plan, Lee teams up with him to form the rebel army "Yggdrasil" and begins working as a staff officer.

Meanwhile, Kazuya leads G Corp and shows no sign of slowing his invasions, despite G Corp's defeat of the Mishima Zaibatsu. The world is being brought to its knees under a brutal wave of military rule.

But Lee knows his adopted brother Kazuya inside and out, and he's started to fully use his knowledge and vast resources to develop a variety of weapons.

With the help of the ingenious scientist Dr. Bosconovitch, he constructs the enormous flying boat, "Víðópnir," in addition to developing mobile warfare units using motorbikes. With these, the rebel army is able to start pushing back against G Corp in every region.

Lee also invests in a next-gen battle suit perfect for close-range combat that will act as a trump card against the enemy's impenetrable armor.

It is called the Violet Suit, a marvelous creation that utilizes sophisticated technologies and is equipped with numerous features that reflect Lee's own aesthetics. Lee struts onto the battlefield in this new armor, ready to take on whatever may come.[1]

Violet Systems, the company run by Lee Chaolan, had reached a turning point with its next-gen battlesuits.

Despite their excellent performance and myriad features, they would require the use of live field tests to advertise their appeal before they could begin a global rollout.

Around this time, news reached the company president's ears: the announcement of the next The King of Iron Fist Tournament, organized by the Mishima Zaibatsu.

Lee had been looking for a way to make an effective PR push, and decided to enter the tournament to do just that.

"Well, it looks like I'll have to show the public what these marvels can do."

Character Episode Ending Lee uses the Mishima Zaibatsu's resources to mass-produce the suits he used in the tournament for his peacekeeping units to to end the war. At his mansion located on a sea-side cliff along the coast, Lee initially celebrates his victory, until he receives a report from "Hachi" that his units have taken a heavy loss across the board. In response, Lee suits up to fly to the battlefields where his units are in trouble, while entrusting "Hachi" to keep an eye on the mansion. As Lee flies to his first destination where one of his units are, Lee looks into a camera view, before leaving a plume of smoke in the shape of the word "Brilliant" while he departs at full speed.

Summary of In-Game Events Lee approaches Lars on board Yggdrasil's flying boat, Víðópnir, standing next to him as they observe Jin via airborne surveillance, proceeding with "Operation Lightning". Lee remarks that it has been six months since Heihachi Mishima's disappearance, and that now an opportunity to take down Kazuya has presented itself. Operation Lightning fails, however, as Jin is unable to defeat Kazuya.

One week later and once again aboard Víðópnir, inside of the hangar, Lee analyzes Jin's performance as he is sparring with Lars. He reveals to the two that Jin's aptitude in all areas has suffered greatly, and the readings are like looking at a completely different person. Lars tells Jin to activate his Devil powers, and Jin is unable to do so. Three more days after this, Lars and Lee are once again standing in the control room of Víðópnir. After Jin's failure to transform, Lee reveals that he plans to contact experts investigating the origins of the Devil Gene. With Kazuya's King of Iron Fist Tournament approaching, Lee also suggests that they will have to send Alisa in to survey for tournament interference. Jin approaches the two and announces his intention to join Kazuya's tournament, even if it may be a trap.

During the Asian B Block Preliminaries of the tournament in Japan, Lee communicates with Alisa who is stationed above the crowd in the arena to survey the tournament proceedings. She tells Lee that there is thus far no suspicious activity. Her update on Jin's physical condition leads Lee to believe that they are no closer to being able to activate Jin's Devil Gene. Once Reina is not considered a person of interest, Lee and Alisa turn their attention towards Hwoarang, who has been performing strongly in the tournament.

Lee, along with Jin and Alisa, later meet with the experts that had been researching the origin of the Devil Gene; Niklas Kliesen and his child, Leo. Lee welcomes the two aboard Víðópnir, recognizing Leo from the previous tournament. Leo challenges Jin to a sparring match, and after the match has concluded, Lee expresses that Jin's abilities have been weakened, and that he will explain more on their way to Italy for the tournament finals.

The group meet with Lars and Reina to continue discussing Azazel, the progenitor of the Devil Gene. They learn that it is Kazuya's desire and avarice that allows him to maintain control of his Devil Gene. Upon landing in Italy, Lee and Lars meet with Victor Chevalier, Raven, and multiple United Nations soldiers outside of the Coliseum of Fate in order to launch an attack during the tournament finals.

After this joint assault on the arena fails to stop Kazuya from absorbing Azazel's power, Jin is compelled by Zafina at the coliseum to return to Yakushima. Lee assures Jin that he is no longer alone, and that he can pass on his responsibilities to others from time to time, giving Jin a thumbs-up and a high-five. Jin, Ling Xiaoyu, Panda, Lili, and Asuka leave the coliseum, while Lee remains with Lars, Alisa, Victor, Claudio, Reina, and Hwoarang to hold off Kazuya.

The group succeeds in forcing Kazuya to flee the battle, and later Lee, Lars, and Alisa meet once again with Niklas and Leo to discuss the new powers Kazuya has gained from besting Azazel. Lee surmises that they can no longer hope to use ordinary means to help Jin regain his abilities.

Kazuya launches an attack on Yakushima in order to stop Jin, and Lee discusses with the group what G Corporation's goals likely are in the attack. Firstly, they intend to capture Jin Kazama, and secondly, they likely intend to annihilate all of Jin's allies. Lee shares that he has heard of G Corporation hiring combatants from the tournament, after which Lars reveals that he has also brought in fighters from the tournament to assist them. Paul Phoenix, Leroy Smith, King, Steve Fox, Shaheen, Kuma, and Hwoarang then arrive in the meeting room, ready to help.

Lee joins Lars, Leo, Reina, Alisa, and the fighters brought along from the tournament on the Yakushima battlefield to face off with G Corp forces. They are once again joined by Victor, Raven, and multiple United Nations soldiers. Amidst the battle, Alisa flies overhead to scan the island for Jin and Xiaoyu. She reports her findings to Lars, who leaves the battlefield to Lee and Alisa as he goes to retrieve Jin.

In the good ending, Lee is seen amongst a line of Yggdrasil soldiers, saluting Lars with a thumbs up as he passes them by and salutes as well.

Lee started out as a "clone" of Marshall Law, with some moves borrowed from Paul Phoenix. In his pre-Tekken 4 era, his main difference with Law was the ability to perform an infinite chain of kicks, much more useful back then because the gameplay didn't offer many options to evade it, and sidesteps were less effective and harder to perform. In later games, Lee evolved more and more into a completely different character, with a flashy and stylish moveset.

Lee's greatest strength lies in his ability to poke and annoy his opponent to death. He has an assortment of fast hard-to-see pokes, and slower but safe launchers that can be used as counter hits once the opponent loses his focus. His Hitman stance embodies his provocative gameplay: it is evasive by nature and can be used to bait out brash attacks and counter them. Another of Lee's great tools is his Lee Sliding, an incredibly hard-to-see and hard-to-punish low attack. Fighting style

In Tekken, Tekken 2 and Tekken Tag Tournament, Lee fought using Mishima Style Fighting Karate combined with his own style of "Martial Arts". Being a variation of Marshall Law's moveset (which is heavily inspired by Bruce Lee's moves), it's safe to assume that Lee's actual fighting style is based on Jeet Kune Do. The only Mishima Karate moves of his, however, are his Left Splits Kick (f, f+3), which was removed in Tekken 5, and the two first kicks of his Infinite Kick Chain, which resemble the Mishima Tsunami Kick (ws+4, 4) but with the other leg.

Since Tekken 4 and onwards, Lee's fighting style is listed simply as "Martial Arts", alluding to the idea that Lee fights using hybridized techniques from other fighting styles combined into one. From then on, many of his attack movements and motions stem from JKD, taekwondo, boxing and even savate techniques.

Violet - Lee's alter-ego. Used as a disguise for entering the 4th King of Iron Fist Tournament. Kazuya Mishima - His adoptive brother. Heihachi adopted Lee purely for him to be an obstacle for Kazuya. Whilst the two are aware of this, Lee and Kazuya have had an ongoing rivalry for years and know each other extremely well. Despite removing himself from Mishima family feuds by living in The Bahamas under the name Violet for years, Lee still seems to be motivated by his personal rivalry with Kazuya, since he was caught off guard by Kazuya's return in the 4th Iron Fist Tournament, losing to him, and subsequently chose to drop out of the Fifth Iron Fist Tournament when he realized Kazuya wasn't hosting it. Heihachi Mishima - His adoptive father. Lee's Tekken 1 and Tekken 7 profiles state that Heihachi gave him the same severe upbringing that Kazuya received. Lee hates Heihachi and constantly plots to either humiliate or kill him. Watched his final battle and presumed ultimate fate via a spy satellite. Lee's Secretary - She is depicted in a number of Lee's endings helping him, and features alongside him in Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Fight Lab. Lars Alexandersson - His adoptive brother and ally. Lee supplied his rebel army, Yggdrasil, with valuable intel and provided at least two facilities for his troops, as seen in Tekken 7. Lee is a sponsor for Lars's army since its creation, including supporting them whilst they consolidated in Northern Europe after their initial defection from Tekken Force.[38] As per Lee's character bio for Tekken 8, Lee is now a Staff Officer for Yggdrasil working alongside Lars.

Jin Kazama - His adoptive nephew. Lee started working against his Mishima Zaibatsu in Tekken 6 via espionage and providing intel to the rebels, but says in the Scenario Campaign that he doesn't have anything personally against him and is only trying to save the world. In Tekken 7, Lee follows Lars's wishes and protects Jin from Tekken Force, including personally airlifting him to safety in a hijacked helicopter. As of Tekken 8, Lee starts to warm up with his adoptive nephew, and assure that he is no longer alone anymore. In Lee's (non-canon) TK6 ending and TTT2 ending as Violet, he can be seen violently disposing of Jin along the rest of the Mishima family. Wang Jinrei - Lee was trained and convinced by him to bring honor to the Mishima Zaibatsu before the events of Tekken 2. Combot - Combot was created by Lee. Combot immediately assumes Lee to be its master and serves him on numerous occasions. Super Combot DX - Super Combot DX was created by Lee. Anna Williams - Worked alongside her at the Mishima Zaibatsu in Tekken 2. They are well-acquainted by Tekken 6. Anna refers to him as a twisted individual in the Scenario Campaign but the two seem happy to see each other and are reluctant to fight. They seems flirtatious with one another in Anna's Tekken 5 interlude. Julia Chang - Lee's friend and acquaintance in the Scenario Campaign in Tekken 6. Lee funded some of her research prior to Tekken 6, and Julia was spying on G Corporation for him. Lee persuaded Lars to rescue her from G Corporation when her disloyalty was discovered.

Alisa Bosconovitch - In the Scenario Campaign story, Lee allied with Alisa and Lars. At the end of the story, Lee promised Lars to help with the repairs for Alisa's programming. In Tekken 7, they help Lars in protecting Jin from the Mishima Zaibatsu. His friend and school student in Tekken: Blood Vengeance (non-canon). Jinpachi Mishima - His deceased adoptive grandfather. The two have never physically met so their actual relationship is unknown, but according to Lee's Tekken 6 prologue, he lost interest in the fifth tournament when he discovered that it was Jinpachi running it instead of Kazuya, so it seems that he holds no strong feelings either for or against Jinpachi. Kuma - Lee grew up in the Mishima household where Kuma was kept as a pet and bodyguard by Heihachi. However, while playing as Lee in Tekken 6 Scenario Campaign he reveals he has no knowledge of the bear’s lifespan. Lee assumes the bear he knew from twenty years ago is the same one, and as such as mistakes Kuma for his son. Bruce Irvin - Works alongside him for Kazuya and the Mishima Zaibatsu in Tekken 2. Employed by Lee in Tekken: The Motion Picture (non-canon). Ganryu - Works alongside him for Kazuya and the Mishima Zaibatsu in Tekken 2. Employed by Lee in Tekken: The Motion Picture (non-canon). Kazumi Mishima - His deceased (presumed) adoptive mother. Lee was 4 years old when she died, and likely adopted by the Mishimas after her death.

Steve Fox - Steve looks up to Lee and knows of his reputation as the "Silver-Haired Demon". Emilie de Rochefort - In Scenario Campaign, Lee recognizes her as the "mademoiselle of Rochefort Enterprises" and is pleased to meet her. She is also a member of Lee's Violet Systems girls team in the Fight Lab mode (non-canon). Nina Williams - Employed by Lee in Tekken: The Motion Picture, as well as his lover (non-canon). Ling Xiaoyu - His friend and school student in Tekken: Blood Vengeance (non-canon). Marshall Law - Lee trained with him and Paul prior to the events of the first Tekken. Paul Phoenix - Lee trained with him and Marshall prior to the events of the first Tekken. Niklas Kliesen - Lee is the one who managed to contact him for his expertise on Devil Gene research from his late wife, Emma during Tekken 8. Lee also recognized Niklas' child, Leo, from prior tournaments.
