Sugawara had been Asahi's setter for a long time until Asahi left the team after their loss to . Sugawara was the first person who tried to convince Asahi to come back, though his efforts were futile. Sugawara knows what pitch Asahi prefers and always takes Asahi's feelings into consideration; at first he would not pitch to Asahi during the practice match against the Neighborhood Association because he did not want to force Asahi to pitch when he did not want to. However, Asahi soon changed his mind during the match and asked for a pitch, and Sugawara happily gave it to him. Since then, their relationship has greatly recovered. Sugawara and Daichi usually team up to tease or encourage Asahi, with the latter once stating that the two act like his parents.

Daichi and Asahi have been playing together since their early years and are very close friends. Daichi was disheartened when Asahi left the team but he was confident that Asahi would come back and never ran after him. So when Asahi came back, Daichi wasn't surprised at all and instead acted as if nothing happened. Their relationship never changed much and even when he was off the team, Asahi was still scared of Daichi, stating that he's scary when he's angry.

Nishinoya admires and trusts Asahi and is usually the one to defend or comfort him. Nishinoya also refused to return to the volleyball team unless Asahi returned as well, though Coach Ukai pushed him to play a practice match. Despite this, Asahi has been shown to be somewhat afraid of Nishinoya.

Nishinoya is also extremely direct and points out Asahi's mistakes and reminds him of his past, but Asahi doesn't seem to care.
