Originally, Aizen presented himself as a kind, caring, friendly, and polite captain of the Gotei 13; his humble exterior was reflected in his use of the self-referring pronoun "boku" (僕), while using "kimi" (君) to refer to others. He shows concern for others' well-being, such as when he expresses confusion over why the Central 46 would sentence Rukia Kuchiki to execution via the Sōkyoku for merely overstaying in the Human World and giving her powers to Ichigo Kurosaki, or when he orders his lieutenant, Momo Hinamori, to ensure the safety of the citizens of Seireitei when the Kakaku Taihō cannonball is about to collide with the Shakonmaku. He is quite generous, offering Momo to let her spend the night in his office when she has trouble sleeping; his charisma in particular has earned him Momo's admiration, who expresses gratitude for being able to be his lieutenant, to the point where she is brought to tears when she discovers what appears to be Aizen's corpse hanging on a wall. Additionally, he appears to be respectful toward his fellow captains and lieutenants, such as when he acknowledges Renji Abarai as a skilled warrior who does not deserve to be discharged despite Byakuya Kuchiki's request. Though he generally maintains a calm and composed demeanor, occasional moments of darkness surface, such as when he coldly warns Gin Ichimaru not to underestimate him after Gin displays cruelty towards Jidanbō Ikkanzaka and Ichigo.

Appearance
Aizen is a tall man with brown hair and eyes. In Soul Society, he wears dark glasses and has his hair parted on the right, giving him a gentle and mild appearance. However, upon revealing his true intentions and leaving for Hueco Mundo, Aizen changes his appearance completely, breaking his glasses and combing his hair back, except for a single lock that falls over his forehead. Even his eyes take on a cunning and menacing shade.

While still wearing his Shinigami uniform, he does so with great austerity, with no special additions to his outfit except for the mandatory white haori typical of captains, which in his case has wide sleeves. Later, already in Hueco Mundo, he dresses in the Arrancar style, with a long white cloak and black trim, to which he adds, perhaps to demonstrate his superiority over the rest, a thick purple cloth belt.

Sōsuke is an extremely powerful opponent, far beyond the average Captain. Although his strength remains unclear, it is assumed from his words that he has reached the limits of the four Shinigami fighting methods (Hand-to-Hand Swordsmanship, Shunpo, and the Kidō). What little is seen fighting seems to represent this idea, as he was able to block Renji and Komamura's attacks with his hands, and Ichigo's bankai with just one finger. His mastery of Kidō is also excellent, as shown by defeating Komamura by performing Hadō #90 on him without the need for a charm (although he himself admitted that he failed to perform it and only released a third of his true power) and even in the past to stop Bakudō #81 from attacking the then Kidō Squad Captain, Tessai Tsukabishi.
