Blair Willows is a waitress at the "Gardania Cafeteria" who wins a scholarship to Princess School. She is a kind-hearted and charming girl. She is kind, smart, and diligent, but clumsy. She is later revealed to be Princess Sofia, the long-lost princess of Gardania.

In the kingdom of Gardenia, teenager Blair Willows works as a waitress at a small coffee shop to financially support her ailing foster mother and younger sister, Emily. Upon returning home, Blair is shocked to discover that she has won a lottery for a scholarship to become a royal lady at the prestigious Princess School, a magical academy where princesses from different kingdoms are educated. Blair's name was drawn in the lottery by Delancey, the daughter of Dame Devin, who is the sister-in-law of the late Queen Isabella. Devin explains that Delancey will be crowned princess and ruler of Gardenia at the school's graduation ceremony. Although Blair does not want to go so as not to leave her family alone, her mother assures her that the school is a pretty good opportunity.

Blair is immediately taken to school in a nice carriage. Upon arriving at school, Blair soon befriends a retriever named "Prince", and the two play together. Blair meets Headmistress Privet, who tells her that the prince is a very shy dog. Blair is taken by Privet to the library and informed that each student is assigned a fairy to act as their personal princess helper. Blair is assigned Grace, who accidentally smashes a pie into Blair's shirt. Delancey tells Blair that the lottery is a joke, and that commoners do not belong at school. She chooses to hate Blair who goes head-to-head. Grace takes Blair to her dorm where she meets her roommates, princesses Ila and Hadley. Isla is very secretive about the electronic music she makes and Hadley loves to play indoor sports. Blair struggles in her classes against her clumsiness and against Dame Devin and Delancey taking a strong dislike to her, but improves when she receives private lessons from Headmistress Privet. Blair meets Prince Nicholas in a dance class, and the two disrupt the class by dancing with a

faster music. Thus, Blair, with instruction from Headmistress Privet, excels in all subjects. During this time, Blair learns the story of Queen Isabella, who died along with her family in a fatal car accident, not knowing that she is, in fact, the lost princess. Two days before the coronation ceremony, the students are invited to visit the royal palace. Before they prepare to leave, Blair and her classmates find their room trashed and their uniforms torn, so they decide to sew the pieces together and create new uniforms. Dame Devin wants to expel them, but Headmistress Privet prevents this and the girls visit the palace. While exploring the palace, Blair and her friends stop by a portrait of Queen Isabella and notice her striking resemblance to Blair. Seeing another portrait of the royal family (including Prince the dog), they realize that Blair was found by her adoptive mother on the same day that the royal family died in a car accident, and Isla and Hadley deduce that Blair is Princess Sofia, Queen Isabella's long-lost daughter and heir to the throne. However, this discovery is seen by Delancey. At dinner, Dame Devin announces a plan to tear down the poor neighborhoods where Blair's family lives and replace them with new parks, and attributes this plan to Delancey, who seems somewhat upset. Blair decides to return home, but changes her mind. She is determined to find the legendary Gardenia crown, which is said to glow when worn by the true heiress. The night before graduation, Dame Devin places jewels in Blair's room and accuses her and her classmates of stealing them. The guards stop them, but they manage to escape with the help of Delancey, who believes Blair is really Princess Sofia. Blair, her classmates, and her fairy Grace go to the palace vault, but there they find Dame Devin, who takes the jewels and steals them.

Dame Devin furiously reveals that she brought about the deaths of Queen Isabella and her family so that Delancey could inherit the throne. Dame Devin is arrested and Sofia/Blair chooses Delancey as her Royal Lady. At the ball celebration, Prince Nicholas arrives and joins in a group dance number, and Sofia/Blair is reunited with her adopted family.

She tries to sabotage Blair at every turn, due to recognizing her as Queen Isabella's long-lost daughter. Delancy Devin, a student at Princess School, daughter of Dame Devin, and the heir to Gardania. Despite her initial bad attitude, she chooses to do the right thing when she discovers that Blair is the true heir to the throne. Princess Hadley, an athletic student at Princess School and one of Blair's roommates and best friends. Princess Isla, a music-loving Japanese student and DJ at Princess Charm School and one of Blair's best friends. Prince Nicholas, a student at Charm Academy, and later a friend of Blair. Emily Willows, Blair's little sister who signed Blair up for Princess Charm. Mrs. Willows, Blair and Emily's adoptive mother who met Blair on her doorstep when she was a baby.
