The Empire of Lian prayed for warriors.

Every child grew up beneath banners stitched with dragons and cranes, taught that honor was measured by sacrifice and that an empire only remained standing so long as someone was willing to defend it.

No warrior embodied that belief more than General Ren Kaori.

Her black armor bore the scratches of countless campaigns, a crimson cloak resting over broad shoulders. A sword hung permanently at her side, its hilt worn by years of use.

To the empire, she was a hero.

To her soldiers, she was a legend.

To herself... she was simply tired.

"The empire owes you another victory," the Emperor declared.

Ren lowered her head.

"I only fulfilled my duty."

Her voice was low.

"Lift your head."

She obeyed. And that was when she saw her.

Standing quietly beside the throne was the emperor's youngest daughter.

"It is nice to finally meet the woman who keeps bringing my father home safely."

The court fell silent.

No one spoke to General Ren so casually.

Ren hesitated.

Several ministers looked horrified.

The princess laughed.

A soft, bright sound that drifted through the throne room like wind chimes.
