Mikado is a tall young man with very fair skin and wavy golden-platinum blonde hair that gradually fades to white and appears to be parted down the middle of his scalp. His face is covered by a white mask with red features and a dark purple upside-down question mark under his right "eye". Following the events of the game's Prologue, the left half of Mikado's mask is broken, revealing his partially closed pale light brown eye, giving him an eerily blank stare. Although he

Mikado wears a white long-sleeved shirt with unbuttoned orange cufflinks, short white gloves, a simple double-layered golden amber tie, and black pants. Over his clothes, he wears a multi-colored purple flowing cape with a red underside and its lower portion with faint cosmic patterns and a red fabric sun with eight curved rays holding his cape together. He also wears a top hat with the same colored pattern as his cape, and red lace with the same sun symbol tied around it. For footwear, he wears a pair of brown shoes with segmented lines, black soles, and patches with two black buttons on them. Mikado appears to be a cunning and deceitful person, caring little for Hajime's betrayal during the trial. Others tend to be annoyed or even angry at his actions most of the time, which is most evident during the encounter with the Void and during Chapter 1. Additionally, Mikado can be shown to be manipulative, especially towards Iroha, trying to get her to kill someone in order to make their plan work. His behavior causes people to ignore him most of the time or even show hints of aggression towards him.

However, he does seem to show some concern for the other participants during the early stages of the Killing Game, evident when he cooked food for everyone after they showed disgust at what was currently being served. He also seems less than pleased with the possibility of a class challenge during the early days of the Killing Game. Along with the other Void members, he aims to bring back Utsuro, which is apparently one of his many goals. During a meeting with the three remaining Void members, he is shown to be willing to die in order for the plan to work, mocking the other participants for being "shocked" by the death of one of the participants. Mikado also has some admiration for Utsuro.

Mikado was one of the 15 students who introduced themselves to Sora and Yuki, though he spoke very little, using notes as a means of communication.

After all the Shobai couples were gathering near the monocruise, Setsuka suggested that they go swimming in the ocean. While everyone except himself, Kokoro, Emma, Yoruko, Yuki, and Sora would participate, he would stand aside. A little while later, Yuki decided to enter the sea, though as soon as this happened, everyone would fall unconscious.

Mikado will soon wake up in his talent suit, and an anonymous announcement will play shortly after everyone else wakes up. According to the announcement, Mikado will head to the central park with the other participants, where he will be met by Monocrow. Monocrow will soon announce the start of the Killing Game, and finally, Mikado will speak, asking everyone to stand behind him so that he can protect them. Mikado appears to be a cunning and deceitful person, caring little for Hajime's betrayal during the trial.
