Fidel was at Paul's house chatting with him and sitting on the couch while Fidel told him that thanks to his students (among them Rodrigo and Juana, Paul's nephews) and the strike they had made in his name, Molfino had given him back his job as a teacher (of literature) in high school; Fidel also kept thinking about all the ups and downs he had had with Paul since they met; on the one hand he had found a great friend and confidant in Paul but on the other Fidel knew that he had feelings for Paul just as Paul had for him. But Fidel, in the midst of his own insecurity when coming out of the closed, found it very difficult to accept these feelings and that's why he and Paul went around in circles, meeting different people to try to forget each other, blah blah.
Fidel looked at the scars on Paul's back and arms under his sweater, wondering how or who had caused them (the wounds were very noticeable and looked very painful).
