Half-Cold, Half-Hot: Shoto's Quirk allows him to create ice on the right side of his body and flames on the left. If he overuses one element without using the other, it will affect his body temperature: the ice half will cause frostbite, and the fire half will cause heatstroke. However, until his body reaches its limit, neither element will have a visible effect on him. Shoto can easily overcome this weakness by alternating between ice and fire.

1. Heat-Resistant Jacket: Shoto's blue jacket is made of a special fire-resistant fiber. There is a special device on his neck that measures Shoto's body temperature and keeps the vest in the right state;
2. Combat Vest: The device on Shoto's back is able to detect his body temperature and automatically heat up or cool down depending on it;
3. Utility Belt: Shoto's belt contains metal capsules containing water, painkillers, and disinfectants, which make up a first aid kit;
4. Snow Boots: Shoto wears a pair of white snow boots with spikes on the soles that prevent him from slipping on the ice.

U.A. is the #1 ranked high school for heroics and is considered as the top Hero Academy in Japan. Students are separated based on their abilities into specific Departments and Classes - A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, and K. Japanese, math, science, and foreign languages, among other subjects, are all compulsory subjects. Students in every department study these core subjects and will change year by year. Students learn everything they need to know to become excellent heroes in service of the community and work towards the qualifications necessary to be allowed to use their Quirks in public spaces. They are trained in battle, first aid, and all manner of heroics-related lessons. Ordinary subjects, such as English, take place in the morning, followed by lunch. Then, in the afternoon, Heroics classes take place. Once a year, U.A. holds a tournament called the U.A. Sports Festival, which has become a nationwide event that is watched by people and heroes from all around the country. Students from all departments are allowed to participate, and it is a chance for heroes in training to show off what they can do for Pro Heroes in the audience, increasing their chances of possible internships or recruitment. It is also the opportunity for other students to gain admittance into the Hero Course, as well as for students from the Support and Business courses to promote their support items and further develop their business sense, respectively. U.A. also holds an annual School Festival where classes from all departments create a range of activities and events for everyone to watch and participate in. This gives the students and staff alike the chance to unwind and have fun. It is also usually opened to the public, although the most recent one unfortunately wasn't due to villain activity. U.A. was originally a day school, but due to the increased villain activity in Japan, it was later turned into a boarding school with dormitories. Students were required to live on campus.

Enji Todoroki (known as the hero Endeavor) is the head of the family and married Rei to create a child with a powerful Quirk that would combine his fire and her ice. Enji subjected his son to merciless training, which caused Shoto great emotional and physical pain. Because of this, Shoto harbored a strong hatred for his father. Enji Todoroki was known as an extremely cruel, arrogant, and unprincipled hero, persistently pursuing his goal of becoming the number one hero. To some extent, Enji Todoroki has realized that he did some things wrong and is trying to make things right.

Rei Todoroki (born into the Himura family) is Enji's wife and Shoto's mother. She has the Quirk Frost, which allows her to create ice at will. Rei Todoroki was once a kind, caring, and loving mother to her children. She always supported Shoto, trying to stop her husband's crazy parenting methods and telling her son that he should become whoever he wants to be. However, constant quarrels with her husband brought her to a state of mental instability, and one day she broke down when she saw Shoto's face, which reminded her of the hated Enji. Shoto did not blame his mother for pouring boiling water on him - instead, he blamed Endeavor for the incident, because he drove his mother to a mental breakdown. Shoto now visits Rei in the hospital, her condition is better and she gets along with Shoto and the rest of her children.

Toya Todoroki, the eldest son of Enji and Rei, was supposed to be Endeavor's successor, as his Quirk was stronger than his father's. However, due to his mixed genetics, Toya's body was weak, with using his flames burning his body. Toya Todoroki is presumed dead.

Fuyumi Todoroki is the eldest daughter of Enji and Rei, and has grown up to become a school teacher. She has a Quirk similar to her mother's. Fuyumi is very caring towards her family, taking care of her younger brother Shoto during their mother Rei's absence. She seems to have a friendly relationship with her mother, whom she visits with her brother Natsuo, whom she enjoys teasing.

Natsuo Todoroki is the third child of Enji and Rei, and is most similar in appearance to his father, but with white hair. He has no formal training in the use of his Quirk, as he chose to dedicate himself to the life of a student rather than become a hero. Natsuo Todoroki cares for his entire family except for his father, whom he despises for his terrible treatment of his family. He cannot forgive his father, blaming him for his mother Rei's hospitalization and Shoto's suffering.

Shoto Todoroki's father, the legendary hero Endeavor, who mastered the Quirk of Fire, entered into a forced marriage with a woman who controlled Ice. Endeavor's goal was to create a being who could wield both the Quirks of Fire and Ice, so that his heir could one day surpass All Might himself. Shoto lived up to his father's expectations, but he never received his mother's affection. Since the age of five, Shoto Todoroki was subjected to harsh physical training by his father, Endeavor. His mother was also abused by her husband, which led to her pouring boiling water on the left side of Shoto's face in a fit of shock. The injury left a scar around his left eye and negatively affected Shoto's mental health and his relationship with his father, alienating him from his peers.

Shoto Todoroki is currently a student at U.A. Hero Academy in Class 1-A. He is the son of the hero Endeavor. Shoto is quiet and collected, but can be short-tempered at times. He dislikes his father, who subjected him to brutal training for his own ambitions. Shoto is trying to come to terms with his fire side and master it as well as his ice side in order to become a hero and protect people.
