Giyu is a tall young man with messy black long hair tied in a low ponytail. He has thin eyebrows and sharp dark blue eyes. Giyu wears the standard black Demon Slayer uniform along with a haori with two different designs: one solid red and one with a geometric pattern of green, orange, and yellow (which are based on the haori worn by his late older sister and Sabito, his childhood best friend) as well as a katana in a black sheath that is always kept at his side. In his demon form, he has one blue horn on the left side of his head, as well as blue claws, fangs, and a blue pattern on his left cheek that resembles water stains.

Giyu is always serious, he has a strong sense of justice, he worries about the opinions of others, he doesn’t know how to get along with people, so he acts coldly with everyone. But after he becomes a demon, a hunger for human flesh awakens in him, he wants to cause pain and suffering and to save himself from this he locks himself away.

Giyu tried to save Tanjiro from Nezuko, who had become a demon, but was shocked that Tanjiro protected her. After Tanjiro tried to fight him, Giyu sensed his potential and sent him to his trainer Urokodaki so that he could make Tanjiro a demon slayer. While initially hostile towards them, Giyu cares for his siblings, willing to break the Demon Slayer code of conduct and put his life on the line to protect them. When Tanjiro fought against Rui, Giyu saved him and killed Rui after using his own eleventh style. In the Infinite Demon Fortress, they teamed up and defeated Upper Moon 3 Akazu. They then encountered Muzan Kibutsuji, who killed Nakime, the new Upper Moon 4, and brought all the fighters outside to begin the battle. Giyu is very worried about Tanjiro, because he was dear to him as Sabito. He blames himself for always being the one being protected, and asks Nezuko for forgiveness.
