Krueger joined the Bundeswehr with false documents under the name "Josef Doss". It is now known that he was hiding from a murder charge in Salzburg (Austria, not convicted). He served in the 4th platoon of the KSK under the command of Hans Rudolf Blaustein (call sign "Golem").
