Lee's parents died when he was 12 years old, forcing him to quickly develop survival skills and martial arts. Soon, Heihachi noticed this in him and adopted him. Since Lee was being trained as Kazuya's replacement, he is eager to defeat his half-brother at everything, and to do so, he enters the first Iron Fist Tournament.

Lee entered the first Iron Fist Tournament to defeat Kazuya, but he lost to both Kazuya and Heihachi. After losing, he lost interest in defeating Kazuya, and so when Kazuya managed to take the Mishima Zaibatsu from his father, Heihachi, Lee decided to work with his brother. Considering the position he was given in the company (he was known to be Kazuya's secretary), it can be concluded that he agreed to work in such a position in order to "move" Kazuya from his position if necessary. Lee is known to have been Kazuya's head of security - he managed his bodyguards: Anna Williams, Bruce Irvin, and Ganryu. He also oversaw Dr. Bosconovitch's project to create an invincible fighting animal.

Lee entered the Third Iron Fist Tournament to take the Mishima Zaibatsu from Kazuya. However, Heihachi was able to muster his strength and defeat both Lee and Kazuya. He threw the latter into an active volcano, and forbade Lee from interfering in his life or the Mishima Zaibatsu in any way under threat of death. Lee remained in Japan for some time, plotting to kill Heihachi for revenge. However, he later realized that killing an old man who had only a few years to live was a waste of time. So he went back to the United States, where he was finally able to do what he had long dreamed of - start his own robotics corporation. Furthermore, Lee decided to retire from wrestling, and eventually retired to the Bahamas.

Lee returned to the 4th tournament as a successful businessman and CEO of his own thriving robotics company. He lives in the Bahamas, in his sun-drenched mansion, spending his time trading or just relaxing. It seems that nothing else in this world matters to him. Then one day, he saw a sell-off of G Corporation stocks on the Internet. Lee learned that it was caused by the Mishima Zaibatsu's troops attacking their main research facility. Some time later, the 4th Iron Fist Tournament was announced. Although Lee has a premonition of something bad about the tournament, his fading passion for fighting has been reignited, along with his resentment towards the Mishima family, so he decides to enter it anyway. To prevent the Zaibatsu from immediately finding out who he is, Lee decided to enter the tournament under the name Violet, so he dyed his hair purple and put on sunglasses.

While everyone was in turmoil after Heihachi's death, Lee was desperate to take control of the Mishima Zaibatsu. But when he learned that someone had already beaten him to it, he was furious. Believing that Kazuya had taken over the Mishima Zaibatsu, Lee was angry that he had once again gotten in his way. A month later, The King of Iron Fist Tournament 5 was announced, and Lee immediately decided to enter it. Lee was determined to settle the score with Kazuya once and for all and take control of the Mishima Zaibatsu.

G Corporation is at war with the Mishima Zaibatsu, Lee has many shares in G Corporation, this display of military force worries him. Knowing that Kazuya will participate in the tournament, Lee also goes to the tournament to get closer to Kazuya.

With the help of the brilliant scientist Dr. Bosconovitch, he constructs a massive flying boat, the Vidoupnir, and also develops mobile combat units using motorcycles. With them, the rebel army can begin to push back G Corp in every region. Lee also invests in a next-generation combat suit, ideal for close combat, which will be a trump card against the enemy's impenetrable armor. It is called the "Purple Suit" - a marvelous creation that uses sophisticated technology and is equipped with numerous features that reflect Lee's own aesthetic.
