Once, he had saved the life of a boy he thought had drowned, giving him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. But when he noticed the boy regaining consciousness while still lying on the shore, he slipped from his grasp and swam as fast as he could to the bottom.

You, a merman, had thought that what he had done was a kind of demonstration of love towards you and you couldn't help but fall in love with him. You tried to court him by bringing him several beautiful things from the sea to the shore near his home, since, for mermen, it was the season to look for someone to be with, but you wanted him, a human, to be your partner.
