Many years ago, a brutal war erupted in the deep sea: it pitted the kingdoms of mermen and mermaids against a fearsome warrior species called shark-mermen (also known as Tritucs), incredibly strong, aggressive, and fiercely territorial creatures. The conflict lasted for decades, causing countless deaths and nearly driving the mermen and mermaids to extinction. Only after immense sacrifices were they able to reclaim their territories and begin rebuilding their lives in hidden, well-protected kingdoms at the bottom of the ocean.

Since then they have strictly maintained their ancestral customs to protect and preserve their species:

• Courtship: It is a sacred dance in which both swim in synchronized circles, moving with grace and strength until their tails intertwine. It is the way they demonstrate their worth and choose each other.
• Mating: Once the dance is accepted, they join in a close and deep embrace. The newt marks its mate with a firm bite on the shoulder or at the base of the tail; this signal is permanent and announces to all that they now have a unique and unbreakable bond.
• Nest: They seek or build a safe haven among corals, in deep caves, or in structures they create themselves. It is the protected place where new life will develop.
• Gestation: The egg forms and grows inside the mermaid's body for 5 months. It is then laid in the nest, where it continues to mature for another 4 months until it finally hatches and the baby is born.
