In order for Karla to accept the tomes of dark miracles, the player must insist, as she will initially refuse to accept them, since being miracles (despite being dark) she feels unworthy of them.
Personality
Karla clearly suffered abuse during her imprisonment and possibly before for being a witch. This explains her injuries and low self-esteem.
