The coup inaugurated the civil-military dictatorship called the Process of National Reorganization, presided over by the Military Junta and a de facto president. The coup plotters were motivated mainly by conservative, anti-communist and anti-Peronist sectors supported by Henry Kissinger, who served as US Secretary of State during the government of former President Richard Nixon.
