Information
biographical NameJeanne GenderFemale
Jeanne is an Umbra Witch and a former rival of Bayonetta. Jeanne was revealed to be the heir to the Umbra throne 500 years ago, and her rivalry with Bayonetta has apparently been going on for a long time. She appears to be on the side of the angels and converses with most of the Four Virtues. Jeanne must be defeated four times throughout the first game.
In the second game, Jeanne returns as Bayonetta's ally and friend during her angelic battles. When a summoning went wrong, her soul was dragged into the realm of Inferno and Bayonetta travels to Fimbulventr to rescue her. By completing the game on any difficulty, Jeanne can be unlocked for use in Story Mode and Multiple Climax.
personality
Compared to Bayonetta, Jeanne is much more serious and aggressive in her personality. In the first game, she enjoys testing Bayonetta and has very little patience for the Laguna Hierarchy she works for, often killing them or abandoning them to their fate at Bayonetta's hands. She seems to always be one step ahead of Bayonetta, knowing more about her own past, mocking her for it. Jeanne is incredibly reckless, a trait she has carried for years, as shown in flashbacks to the past where she blatantly ignores Umbra law and chooses Bayonetta to fight. This is shown once again in the second game where she pushes Bayonetta away to save her from a Gomorrah attack with little regard for the consequences: her soul is knocked out and she is dragged to Inferno.
Through Bayonetta's flashbacks, it is revealed that Jeanne was the one who stabbed her in the heart all those years ago, leaving her in a coffin at the bottom of a lake with few memories of her former self. However, it is ultimately shown that she did this to protect both Bayonetta and the Left Eye and that it was a hard and sad task. In fact, she is shown to care more about Umbra's legacy than her own life. Her previous aggressive attitude towards Bayonetta dissipates when she is freed from Balder's mind control and she maintains an air of friendly rivalry with Bayonetta in their renewed friendship.
Jeanne obviously cares deeply for Bayonetta and frequently puts her friend before herself. Some speculate about the true nature of their relationship.
before
Jeanne is portrayed as a tall, slender, young-looking woman with porcelain skin and short, platinum blonde hair, similar to a pixie cut. Jeanne wears an outfit made by the clothing line "d'arc". It is red with a button design starting from the left side of her chest down to her right heel. The buttons open, revealing a white cape underneath the front of her right leg and down the back of her left leg. The outfit has a rather large Renaissance-style collar worn in a similar fashion to a scarf with her Umbra watch in the center of her bust. Jeanne has furry black cuffs on her arms as well as red open-toed heels, revealing her perfectly manicured feet. Her glasses are red and feature a wing design followed by some black feathers above her right ear.
after
Jeanne makes a comeback in Bayonetta 2 with a makeover. She has used magic to grow her hair considerably to thigh length, covering part of her face. She wears a new outfit, a tight leather biker suit with angular shoulders and a vertical stripe design. Her watch is now near her left shoulder. The suit has black stripes near the shoulder seams that continue inwards, running the length of her body. The black stripes also run down her arms. Instead of the heels she used to wear, she now wears tall boots and red gloves. The wing-designed glasses she had have been replaced with silver glasses that appear to have a cat/mask design, as well as gold feather earrings with red gemstones. Apparently, Jeanne has retained the use of her All for One.
powers
As an Umbra Witch, Jeanne has the same abilities as Bayonetta, though she is more experienced in using them despite having been beaten by Bayonetta on several occasions. She made a pact with a moth-like she-devil known as Madama Styx, her fists and feet appear through Jeanne's Hex Attacks, and has shown the ability to fully summon her in the second game. In Shattered Heaven, Jeanne displays some form of telekinesis when she directed one of her bullets at Bayonetta; when she did so, her eyes turned red.
Jeanne's arsenal is very similar to Bayonetta's in terms of function, but they differ in their names, their color scheme, and the demons that Rodin has sealed within the weapons. Like Bayonetta, Jeanne is skilled with any weapon once it is in her possession and has masterful skill in the arts of shooting.
It is hinted that Jeanne's primary weapon is the Angel Slayer katana, which sets her apart from other witches.

history
Jeanne met Bayonetta when they were children, and as she said, they used to play together. As time went on, Jeanne became the heir to the Umbra throne. In her final test to become the clan leader, the Elder of Umbra told her that she must choose an opponent; she chose Cereza, who broke the laws of Umbra. When the Elder mentioned this, Jeanne only said "It wouldn't be the first time we've faced each other." Sometime after their defeat at the hands of Cereza, civil war broke out between the Witches of Umbra and their counterparts of light, the Sages of Lumen, in which Jeanne fought alongside Cereza. The war ended in favor of the witches, but humans, afraid of their powers and instigated by Balder, began conducting massive witch hunts, killing almost all of the witches. However, Jeanne and Cereza survived. Jeanne, afraid that Umbra's greatest treasure, the Left Eye, would fall into the wrong hands, placed Cereza in a lake for 500 years.
history
In the final chapter, it is revealed that Jeanne did not die in the building's explosion. Instead, she uses the red jewel she used to seal Bayonetta centuries ago to protect herself from the impact and also free herself from Balder's manipulation. When Bayonetta awakens as the Left Eye and is incapacitated by Balder, Jeanne rushes to her rescue. When Balder taunts Jeanne that Bayonetta is the Left Eye, she replies that she cares not for power and is there to rescue her "sister from Umbra".
When she pulls Bayonetta out of the statue's eye, she is seemingly killed again by a shockwave from the statue, but returns to aid Bayonetta and destroy Jubileus by using her hair in conjunction with Bayonetta's to summon Queen Sheba. After saving Bayonetta from an incoming boulder, she wryly states that "even after destroying that abomination, it will still destroy the world" and that she is going to get her out of there even if it costs her own life, stating that she is "one of a kind". After Bayonetta insists that "they are both one of a kind", they destroy Jubileus' body together and return to Earth.
At Bayonetta's funeral, Jeanne disguises herself as a nun and prays to summon Laguna, much like Bayonetta did in the game's prologue. When Laguna descends from Paradiso to claim Bayonetta's soul, Jeanne mimics her fellow witch's earlier actions. This is the signal for Bayonetta to rise from her coffin. Their friendship is renewed, and the two remaining Umbra witches fight side-by-side against Laguna in the graveyard.
story 2
In a bright city landscape after the events of the first game, just before Christmas time, Jeanne reunites with Bayonetta on her motorcycle to comment on how things have been unusual among the Trinity of Realities. Jeanne agrees to pick up a few things for her and leaves. When Bayonetta has to fight off an influx of angels hijacking the Platinum Stars display team, Jeanne appears flying one of the jets through the city to help complete her daily obligation. After a railway bridge is destroyed, the witches gather where Bayonetta asks if Jeanne has gotten everything. Jeanne states that they can get the forgotten caviar if they finish quickly. The pair fight Belief in a battle, which ends when Bayonetta calls upon Gomorrah to finish off the angel. However, the demon suddenly breaks free and turns on its master. Jeanne notices this and rushes to save Bayonetta and is struck in the process, knocking her soul out of her body. As she laments that this isn't how things are supposed to end, Jeanne is dragged through a portal into Inferno. After defeating Gomorrah, Bayonetta is seen holding Jeanne's lifeless body in her hands.
Bayonetta later learns that Jeanne's soul can still be saved before it is completely absorbed into Inferno. In order to travel to Inferno, she also learns that she has to go through the legendary Gates of Hell, located on the sacred mountain of Fimbulventr.
When Bayonetta finally reaches the depths of Inferno, the demon Alraune has captured Jeanne's soul in order to use the witch's power for her own. After a titanic battle, Bayonetta frees Jeanne's soul, and Jeanne awakens to begin floating towards her body in order to revive, but not before warning her friend that something big is happening.
story 2
to happen in the world and you have to be careful.
Jeanne appears in her fully revived state on a fighter jet in order to accompany Bayonetta and a young Balder to the top of Fimbulventr to rescue Loki from Loptr's clutches. Jeanne later summons Gomorrah to swallow Loptr's physical body after Bayonetta wins against him. Several days later, following the events at Fimbulventr, Jeanne accompanies Bayonetta on some shopping during the post-holiday sales, later confronting more Angels.
