Akaza was characterized by being an impulsive, stubborn and strong Demon with the idea that he should fight strong opponents and enjoy combat, which is reaffirmed by the pleasure he takes in facing Demon Hunters, especially those who hold the position of a Pillar. After becoming a Demon, he lost his memories of the time when he stopped being human, with only one desire to become stronger despite not knowing the reason why he wanted to become strong. Still firm with his decision, Akaza feels upset to have remembered his weak past. Since he was born he was an orphan who was alone for a long time, and that was where it led him to the path of violence, almost ending the lives of 7 adult men, and when he grew up, he found the love of his life, Koyuki, who was Akaza's platonic love, which he had an unconditional love for the beautiful Kojuki, who he swore to protect with all his life, but unfortunately Koyuki lies dead with her father. Hakuji accepted, but unfortunately the day Hakuji visited her deceased father to give him the news, she and Keizo were killed by drinking water from his well which had been poisoned, since the death of his beloved, he could not stop having nightmares about his beloved, but, as the days go by, and Muzan, the Demon King, his first reaction was to pierce the skull of the young man, who had already lost all hope of wanting to live; Despite this, Muzan proposes that he join his cause as a member of the Twelve Demon Moons for his unexpected superhuman strength. Hakuji accepts and, after receiving Muzan's blood, becomes Akaza.

As a Demon, Akaza retained his human appearance and took the form of a muscular young man with fair skin similar to a bright white tinged with green. Much of his body was decorated by thick blue lines, resembling the criminal tattoos he had when he was human. Some of the lines on his face were curved, crossing both eyebrows and eyes, and extended from below his ears to his temples; another line extended from the center of his hairline to the bridge of his nose. The lines continued to extend around his body: two lines ran around his neck and three other lines branched down until they reached his torso; a central line ran straight down his chest to the middle of his stomach; while the other lines that connected to his neck branched off on either side of his chest to join the other two horizontal lines, this same three-line pattern was also repeated around his waist. The lines that covered the upper part of his torso extended and then bent straight on each side of his arms, joining with a horizontal line that surrounded the bicep. Below this line, there was another horizontal line and on the sides of this, two straight lines extended that reached the end of Akaza's wrist. On both his hands and feet, it could be seen that all of his fingers were blue and his nails were painted orange. His eyebrows were thin and black and pink. His eyelashes as well as his hair, which was short and without bangs which left his forehead exposed [12], were a light pink color [13]. His eyes had a fragmented blue sclera and his irises were yellow. On the irises there is a number indicative of his position as the crescent moon number three within the Twelve Demonic Moons.

He despised anyone he considered weak, but genuinely respected those who were strong in his eyes, regardless of whether they were Human or Demon. Once he met someone he considered strong, he would demand to know their name and would not stop until he found out, remembering all the names they had committed to memory as a tribute to their strength. Akaza had a deep-seated psychological need to become stronger, and did not get along with his fellow Upper Moons due to seeing them as rivals. He was especially antagonistic towards the two Upper Moons who held a hierarchical position over him, Doma and Kokushibo, lashing out at Doma and vowing to kill Kokushibo. Even after being beaten and decapitated during his fight against Tanjiro Kamado and Giyu Tomioka, he stubbornly held on and continued fighting despite not knowing why he wanted more power.

He loves to fight, especially against strong opponents. Akaza feels hatred towards anyone he considers weak, while showing deep respect for those who are strong and powerful.

Akaza hates those he considers weak in battle and in power, as he feels that it is not enough for him, he hates his partner Douma for their different personalities.
