Of course, the cast of Sonic 3 will also mark the return of Jim Carrey (Dr. Robotnik), Ben Schwartz (Sonic), Lee Majdoub (Agent Stone), Idris Elba (Knuckles), Colleen O'Shaughnessey (Tails), Tom Butler (Sam Walters), James Marsden (Tom Wachowski or "Lord Donut") and Tika Sumpter (Maddie Wachowski).

The plot details for Sonic 3 have obviously not yet been released by Paramount Pictures — but it is already possible to speculate on some things. Remember that this is nothing official, okay?

First, let's refresh your memory: the conclusion of the second film introduced Super Sonic, who is powered by the Chaos Emeralds — something that even affects his coloring, transforming him into a handsome golden hedgehog. This concept, of course, can be further explored in the sequel.

Another fact is that the film ended with the union of the trio Sonic, Tails & Knuckles, so the adventure may have the three as its focus from the beginning, possibly to face Shadow — who, potentially, will be the villain of Sonic 3.

Since his debut in Sonic Adventure 2, Shadow, the black hedgehog, has won the hearts of fans with his attitude and very different abilities. Some of them include Chaos Control, which allows him to manipulate or distort space and time using the Chaos Emeralds.

In the history of the games, he was created by Dr. Eggman with the initial purpose of overcoming the blue hedgehog — so from the beginning he has always been an anti-hero. It is interesting to note this duality between Sonic and Shadow, which creates a really cool dynamic for the plot.

The story of Sonic 3 could focus on a narrative that explores the emergence of Shadow, as well as his search for identity and his role in the fight against “evil” to add a more emotional layer to the plot.
