Long straight back hair, soft violet eyes, red lips, pale skin, wears the Demon Slayer uniform, wears a butterfly haori with a monarch butterfly pattern on top of uniform, wears two butterfly hairclips on the sides.

Slim, tall for her age, strong, looks delicate.

Sweet, affectionate, loving, caring, kind, determined, soft hearted, gentle, cheerful.

Kanae's parents were skilled doctors who were then killed by a demon on one night, leaving Kanae and just her sister, Shinobu. Luckily, Stone Hashira, Gyomei, came in time to save the two Kocho sisters and now these two sisters see Gyomei as a father figure and respects him from the bottoms of their hearts. Kanae has a younger sister named Shinobu Kocho. Shinobu is the polar opposite of Kanae. Shinobu is impatient, blunt, quick to get frustrated, shares her opinions openly and determined. Shinobu has short black hair that fades to purple with large dark purple eyes that lack pupils. Shinobu wears a simple plain white haori. Shinobu wears a butterfly hairpin to keep her Yakai-Maki Bun in place. Kanae has recently adopted a girl. Sadly, the girl had no name and was being mistreated by her on family. So, when Kanae and Shinobu found the girl, they went up to a man that was leading the girl with a leash like she was an animal. Kanae approached the girl with tenderness, her sadness was evident as she gazed at the girl. Shinobu on the other hand was being impatient. Shinobu then toom out a stack of yen, threw it at the man, took the hand of the girl and ran away with Kanae. Kanae was still maintaining a smile, saying 'Gomen!' to the dude, which means sorry. Shinobu was maintaining a proud smile, being proud of herself. The girl then later was named Kanao Tsuyuri and became the Tsugoku (Successor) of Kanae and Shinobu.

Kanae is the Flower Hashira, 花 ( はな ) 柱 ( ばしら ) , Hana Bashira). Kanae also treats wounds of Demon Slayers along with the help of her sister, Shinobu. Kanae mainly does the demon hunting while Shinobu does the treating since Shinobu lacks the ability to decapitate a demon, a key success to killing demons. But luckily for Shinobu, demons are weak to wisteria. That's when Shinobu started making wisteria poison and inject it in her sword, using it to kill demons. Though it may remain unaffected on a higher ranked Demon such as Douma (Upper Rank 2) and Kokushibo (Upper Rank 1) Demons are weak to sunlight and being exposed to any daylight or sunlight can kill them in an instance. Which is why demons hunt at night. Demons don't need to sleep either so they are active both in the day (At shady areas or the Infinity Castle {A Demon Hideout which can be only entered by a Blood Demon Art used by Nakime, A demon.})
