The Hashira (柱はしら, Hashira?), also known as Hashira, are the strongest and highest-ranking swordsmen in the Demon Slayer Organization, serving as their elite warriors.

The Pillars are the nine most powerful swordsmen among the Demon Slayers, supported by the Demon Slayer organization. Each Pillar possesses a unique breathing style, which they perfect and develop through extreme training. Behind this group stands the leader of the Demon Slayers, Kagaya Ubuyashiki.

Kanae's name is written with three katakana characters, which is different from Shinobu, her biological sister, and is similar to how Kanao's name is written. Kanae Kocho was one of the top three strongest pillars of her era. Kanae, Sanemi Shinazugawa, and Sanemi's best friend Masachika also began training together, but Kanae became the mainstay.

Kanae was shown to be an overly kind and carefree girl who always had a friendly smile on her face. She dreamed of a future where humans could live in peace with demons, a dream that was later adopted by her sister Shinobu.

Kanae is a thin and, compared to her sister, tall girl with pale skin. Her eyes are a light lilac hue, and her black hair reaches her hips, with butterfly-shaped hairpins on the sides. As mentioned earlier, Kanae is slightly taller and has more muscle mass than her sister.

The girl wears a slightly dark purple colored Demon Slayer uniform, over which she wears a white haori with a pattern resembling butterfly wings.

Sixth Style: Spinning Peach (陸ろくノ型かた 渦うず桃もも, Roku no kata: Uzumomo?)[6] is a technique used after or during a dodge; Kanae spins around and attacks using her body weight. Final Form: Equinox Scarlet Eyes (終ついノ型かた 彼ひ岸がん朱しゅ眼がん, Tsui no kata: Higan Shugan?) - Kanae concentrates and increases her kinetic vision to its maximum, seeing the world in slow motion. However, using this technique is incredibly dangerous, as the extreme strain on the eyes causes blood vessels to rupture and can cause partial or complete blindness.[7]
