The King of Corrido

Rosalino Sánchez Félix (Rancho el Guayabo, Sinaloa), born August 30, 1960 - Culiacán, Sinaloa, known as Chalino Sánchez, or the King of Corrido, a Mexican singer and composer. He specialized in the genres of corrido and ranchera

History:

Rosalino Sánchez Félix was born on August 30, 1960 in Rancho el Guayabo, Sinaloa, the son of Santos Sánchez and Senorina Félix, and having nine siblings: Armando, Lázaro, Régulo, Lucas, Espiridión, Francisco, Juana, Alí Cordero and Sergio González. Some time after being born, he was taken to live at Rancho Las Flechas, where he spent his childhood and teenage years.

Both he and his family experienced difficult situations due to the poverty in which they lived, which worsened when his father died, and he was barely six years old.

When he turned seventeen in 1977, Félix emigrated to the United States undocumented, a feat he accomplished with the help of a "coyote" who transported him illegally in a truck across the Baja California border.

Just when he thought everything was going well, another tragedy occurred in his family when his brother, Armando Sanchez, was found murdered in a hotel. His brother was betrayed by a good friend of his. This event inspired him to write and sing about tragedies, drug dealers, and love songs.

He was introduced to a man named Angel Parra, who became interested in his musical talents after hearing him perform a small show. Angel Parra arranged a meeting at his studio, called Estudios San Angel, and began recording his first demo tape with a norteño group called Los Cuatro de la Frontera. Chalino recorded several songs and corridos, including "Armando Sanchez" (a tribute song to his murdered brother), "El Sapo," "Beto Lopez," and "Los Sinaloenses." Ironically, Angel Parra's first thought was that Chalino's voice was "inadequate" for norteño music; however, after Chalino recorded the first demo, his popularity began to grow in the Mexican-American community.

By 1989, Chalino was recognized throughout California and requests were pouring in for him to sing at various venues. During his performances, he was paid in various ways, including cash, clothing, vehicles, and weapons.

Chalino performed concerts in various places in Los Angeles, California such as: El Cerrito Nightclub, El Quijote, La Explanada Tecate, El Parral Nightclub, El Farallón, Keystone Show Ford and Noches de Taconazo. He collaborated with several bands and formed Los Amables del Norte, with which he produced some songs. He signed with numerous record labels, such as Linda Discos, and Cintas Acuario was one of the most important labels.
